Discussion 4: Understanding Al in Human Resource Management

Question 1

Amazon is one of the American companies that use AI well in the course of its human

resource management activities. The Amazon Company is a global e-commerce and cloud

computing leader; hence, it has got huge job hiring, induction, and employee management

demands on a daily basis. In order to ensure efficient management of this scale, Amazon

incorporates AI tools along the HR pathways, involving recruitment and performance

management. It applies AI due to the necessity to minimize the human workload and accelerate

operations and preserve competitive efficiency of operations (Bratton et al., 2021). AI also helps

HR departments to sift through masses of candidate applicants, and makes sure that the available

workforce is directed according to changes in customer demand. This smart use of AI can help to

make HR responsive and more productive.

Question 2

Amazon has presence in various business sectors, which are mainly e-commerce, supply

chain, and data center. Its major services are amazon online marketplace, Amazon Web services

(aws), Prime video and kindle devices. Amazon started in the year 1994 and is based in Seattle.

The company has grown to be the biggest online retailer in the world. It emphasizes more on the

fundamental things such as shipping wares fast using huge fulfillment centers and exceptional

regard to customer experience using technology innovation. Amazon, besides retailing, offers

cloud service to businesses all around the globe through AWS, and this aspect makes Amazon a

technological leader (Bratton et al., 2021). This sheer scale means the company needs excellent
HR systems to propel hiring, training, and engagement of more than one million members of

staff across the globe.

Question 3

Amazon applies AI to HR through the implementation of automated solutions to

screening resumes, mapping candidates to job specifications and conducting interviews,

decreasing the workload and increasing the quality of the recruiters. Scheduling of the staff in the

warehouse is also managed using AI which forecasts the products demand to guarantee that there

is enough staff during the peak hours (Anwar & Abdullah, 2021). Besides, AI chatbots provide

the employees with HR answers immediately, improving the response time. However, the use of

AI has also been criticized because of the possible prejudices in the recruitment algorithms and a

lack of personification when it comes to performance tracking which is assumed to de-motivate

employees. Nevertheless, AI-powered HR strategies adopted by Amazon remain efficient,

scalable, and innovative in taming its vast list of workers.
