Chapter III
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
This chapter gives an outline of research methods there were
founded in the study. In conducting the study which include the
research design, research locate, participants of the study,
research instruments, data gathering procedure, data analysis
procedure the researcher also discussed the methods that will be
used to analyze the data that will be gathered.
Research Design
This study will be using quali-quanti research design,
descriptive survey questioner to gather the relevant data to
collect information about the study. This research design was
used to determine the contributing effects of group work in the
academic achievement and social development of Grade-6 students
at North Central School.
Research Locale
This study aims to investigate the effects of group work on
the academic achievement and social development of Grade-6
students at North Central School. The findings can inform
teaching practices and improve student outcomes.
Participants of the Study
The study will be conducted at North Central School among
all Grade-6 students during the school year 2024-2025. In
addition, a total of 299 population of 8 section of Grade-6
students, with a sample size of 299 respondents.
Research Instruments
The researchers used a survey questionnaires design.
Additionally, the survey questionnaires was also used to gather
data and relevant information to identify the effects of
groupwork on the academic achievement and social development of
Grade 6 students with the use of 4-point likert scale (1)Strongly
Disagree, (2)Disagree, (3)Agree, (4)Strongly Agree).
Data gathering procedure
In data gathering method the researcher asked first the
approval of the school administration especially to Mr. Melozar
F. Dizon, Elementary school principal lV, also a request letter
to the all advisers of grade 6 to conduct the distribution among
the elementary students to gather the needed data questionnaire.
after which, when the materials has been prepared and approved,
researchers distributed the questionnaires to the selected
respondents. Subsequently, the researchers retrieve the
questionnaires from the respondents in inclusive time and date
and be presented to the research adviser. The data was gathered
through the use of survey questionnaires will be treated with
likert scale.
Data Analysis Procedure
Data analysis is the method in which data is collected and
organized so that the researcher will be able to look at the data
and determine relationships. Data in statistics is often an
interpretation of raw data to show relationships between
variables. Slovin’s Formula will be used to determine the
appropriate sample size from the total population of Grade 6
students. The formula, n=N/1+Ne2 , where n is the sample size, N
is the population size, and e is the margin of error (typically
set at 0.05), ensures a statistically representative sample. A
simple random sampling technique will be employed to select
participants, ensuring each student has an equal chance of being
included. Data will be collected through academic performance
records and validated surveys assessing social development
before and after the groupwork activities. The data analysis will
involve descriptive statistics to summarize performance and
development scores, followed by paired sample t-tests to evaluate
significant changes in academic performance. The results will be
interpreted to determine whether groupwork has a social benefits
and challenging impact on students’ academic performance and
social development.
