Sub Work: - Improvement/Rehabilitation and widening of
Canal Patrol Road along Machai Branch from RD:
186000 to 210000 in reaches District Swabi
Estimated cost Rs. 153.49 Million

PROJECT REPORT

Upper Swat Canal was constructed in 1914. It has a length 20.038


KM falling in Swabi Irrigation Division from RD: 186000-251950 along with
ancillary 02 Nos. Distys & 17 Nos. minors having a length of 120.89 KM
and irrigates a CCA of 45488 acres with a design disch: of 539.23 at RD
186000. Machai Branch has a canal patrol road which has got damaged at
certain reaches. The above canal patrol road is used by the staff of
Irrigation Deptt: for patrolling purpose besides general public residing
along either side of the canal. The farmers use this road for transportation
of their agricultural products from field to markets.
With the extensive use of heavy vehicular traffic, the condition of
this canal patrol road has gone deteriorated and in some reaches it has
been rendered un-motor-able. The Irrigation Department as well as the
local population is confronted with tremendous communication problem.
Furthermore, there develop serious patches/ brims erosion due to rains
and subsequent flood experienced during the last few years.
The Canal Patrol Road along Machai Branch connects Parmoli, Asota,
Sheikh Jana, Ahad Khan & other nearby villages to main Mardan-Swabi
road.
Although the Irrigation Department is making strenuous efforts to
Improve/ rehabilitate this road, but due to financial constraints the
required quantum of developmental work could not be carried out and as
such the condition of canal patrol road is further deteriorating day by day.
To ensure durability of roads, safety wall has also been proposed in
reaches, which will widen the section of road but will also check the
erosion of the road brims.
Sensing the gravity of situation the locals of the area have
approached their local elected representative member of the National
Assembly as well as Minister Irrigation also this office for improvement /
rehabilitation of above canal patrol road.
The technical staff of Irrigation Department conducted survey for
rehabilitation of the Canal Patrol Road and proposed rehabilitation of road
in Sub Base. Water Bound, Asphaltic Wearing Course and estimate was
prepared for rehabilitation of canal patrol road.
The PC-I amounting to Rs. 153.49 Million is submitted herewith for
approval & arrangement of funds please.
