Student Name:_________________________
Grade: 7
Subject: Science
Unit Name: How do we map and measure quantities?
Statement of Inquiry: Understanding the relationship between objects in motion and measuring it
accurately is crucial in the different time and space.
Assessment Type: Practice Sheet
Criteria being Assessed: Criterion A: Knowledge and Understanding
i. outline scientific knowledge
ii. apply scientific knowledge and understanding to solve problems set in familiar
situations and suggest solutions to problems set in unfamiliar situations
iii. interpret information to make scientifically supported judgments.
Command Terms:
● Outline:Give a brief account.
● Suggest: Propose a solution, hypothesis or other possible answer.
● Apply: Use knowledge and understanding in response to a given situation or real circumstances. Use an
idea, equation, principle, theory or law in relation to a given problem or issue.
● Interpret: Use knowledge and understanding to recognize trends and draw conclusions from given information.
Task Instructions:
1. Read the task specific clarifications and refer to command terms for more clarity.
2. For criterion A, read the questions carefully.

Answer question 1 to 5 by choosing only one correct option and encircle the same:
1. The figure below shows a measuring scale which is usually supplied with a geometry box. Which
of the following distances cannot be measured with this scale by using it only once? (Hint: Upper
scale shows reading in cm)
a) 0.1 m b) 0.20 m c) 0.15 m d) 0.05 m
2. The distance between Delhi and Mumbai is usually expressed in units of
(a) decametre (b) metre (c) centimetre (d) kilometre
3. Which of the following does not express a time in SI unit?
(a) time taken for earth to rotate on its axis
(b) A second
(c) Our school period
(d) time taken to complete earth revolution around sun
4. Four pieces of wooden sticks A,B,C and D are placed along the 15 cm long scale as shown in Fig below.
Which one of them is 3.4 cm in length?
a) A b) B c) C d) D

broken scales A, B and C as shown in Fig below to measure a length of 10 cm.
For the correct measurement of the length you will use the scale
(a) A only (b) B only. (c) C only (d) Any of the three scales.
6. The photograph given on the right side shows a section of a grille made up of
straight and curved iron bars. How would you measure the length of the Bars (
straight and curved) of this section, so that the payment could be made to the
contractor? Explain.
7. Four children measured the length of a table which was about 2 m. Each of them used different ways
to measure it.
(i) Sam measured it with a half metre long thread.
(ii) Gurmeet measured it with a 15 cm scale from her geometry box.
(iii) Reena measured it using her hand span.
(iv) Salim measured it using a 5 m long measuring tape.
Which one of them would get the most accurate length? Give reason for your answer.

8. Three students measured the length of a corridor and reported their measurements. The values of
their measurements were different. What could be the reason for the difference in their measurements?
(Mention any three reasons.)
9. Riyana was asked to conduct an experiment to find the volume
of stone. She filled the measuring cylinder with water up to a mark
and noted initial reading. She lowered the stone inside the
cylinder with water and again measured the reading of the water.
She subtracted the first reading of volume from the later and
calculated the volume of water displaced.
( 1cm3= 1ml)
Using the above information and given figure, answer the following questions. Mention the unit
against the answers.
a) What is the least count of measuring cylinders?___________________
b) What is the volume of water displaced after lowering the
stone inside measuring cylinder ? Calculate.

c) What will be the volume of stone?____________________________
