Management Method Codes Used with the Hazardous Waste Report
What is the Hazardous Waste Report?
Large quantity generators and TSDFs must report on their hazardous waste generation and
management activities to EPA every other year, as specified in 40 CFR 262.41, 264.75, and
265.75. To assist generators and TSDFs, EPA publishes the Hazardous Waste Report
Instructions and Forms (EPA Form 8700-13 A/B). includes instructions and forms
for them to describe the type, source, form, and management of hazardous wastes that they
generate and the type, quantities, and management of hazardous wastes that they receive from
off site.
What are Management Method Codes?
The Hazardous Waste Report Instructions and Forms includes a list of Management Method
Codes to describe the type of hazardous waste management system used to treat, recover, or
dispose of a hazardous waste. These codes are updated routinely and published in the
instructions of the current edition of the booklet. For the convenience of readers, we present a
list of Management Method Codes that were included in the 2003 Hazardous Waste Report
Instructions and Forms. Note, however, that these codes are subject to change over time, and
manifest users are urged to refer to the most recent edition of the

Where must Management Method Codes be entered on the manifest?
Management Method Codes must be entered by the designated TSDF in Item 19 of the manifest
and in Item 36 of the continuation sheet. Refer to the manifest instructions for completion of
these codes.
