Abstract
Fossil fuels have significantly impacted global energy use, fostering human
progress but also leading to higher electricity costs and economic strain. As the
world shifts to sustainable energy, renewable sources like wind and solar offer
long-term benefits in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate
change. This study focuses on utilizing wind energy in schools, using affordable,
recycled materials like PVC pipes, wood, and caster wheels to create a low-cost
wind turbine. Components such as charge controllers and wires are used for
vi
energy production. A survey of 206 high school students at Child Jesus of Prague
School assessed the turbine's affordability, sustainability, eco-friendliness, and
energy production. Results show that students view the turbine as sustainable
(4.18) and eco-friendly (4.28), though they are neutral about its affordability (3.03).
The overall response (3.83) suggests the turbine is a viable renewable energy
option, though further research into cost optimization is recommended. The study
encourages integrating environmental education, hands-on learning, partnerships
with renewable energy organizations, and incorporating renewable energy into
school infrastructure to foster awareness and adoption of green energy solutions.
