Grade 10 Internal Assessment Guide

The document outlines an internal assessment for Grade 10, focusing on mathematical proofs and budget analysis. It includes tasks such as proving the quadratic formula and the n-th term of an arithmetic progression, as well as analyzing an education budget to determine the ratio of administrative to academic heads and suggesting budget allocations based on student distribution. Additionally, it presents real-life situations involving systems of linear equations and arithmetic progressions related to movie tickets and taxi fares.

Internal Assessment - 1 (2025–26)

Grade 10 | Unit 1 | Assessment Criteria: B, C(i,v), D

Task 1: Proof and Verification of General Forms

1. Quadratic Formula

To Prove: For the quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0 , the solution is:

x = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac)) / 2a

Proof:

ax² + bx + c = 0

x² + (b/a)x + (c/a) = 0

x² + (b/a)x = -c/a

Complete square: Add (b/2a)²

(x + b/2a)² = (b² - 4ac)/4a²

x = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac)) / 2a

2. n-th Term of Arithmetic Progression (AP)

To Prove: The n-th term is:

a = a + (n - 1)d

Using first few terms:

a₁ = a
a₂ = a + d
a₃ = a + 2d

a = a + (n - 1)d

Task 2: Case Study – Education Budget

a. Find Ratio of Admin to Academic Head

Total Budget: ₹40,000 crore | Education: 20% → ₹8,000 crore

Let Administrative = A, Academic = C

Given Conditions:

(A - 1000) / (C + 1000) = 1/5 ⟹ 5A - C = 6000

A / (C + 3000) = 2/7 ⟹ 7A - 2C = 6000

₹ ₹
Solving gives: A = 2000 crore, C = 4000 crore

Final Ratio: Admin : Academic = 1:2

b. Suggest Budget Allocation Based on Students

Academic Budget: ₹4000 crore

Student Distribution:

Primary: 1 million
Middle: 0.6 million
Secondary: 0.4 million

Assume per student allocation: x, 1.5x, 2.5x

Total = 2.9x = 4000 → x ≈ ₹13793

Final Allocations:

Primary: ₹1379.3 crore

Middle: ₹1241.4 crore
Secondary: ₹1379.3 crore

Task 3: Real Life Situations

1. System of Linear Equations (Movie Tickets)

Let Adult = x, Child = y

3x + 5y = 1650
2x + 3y = 1050

Solving: x = 300, y = 150 ₹
2. Arithmetic Progression (Taxi Fare)

First km = ₹25, each next km = ₹8

Total distance = 15 km

a = 25, d = 8
a₁₅ = a + (15-1)d = 25 + 112 = 137

Fare for 15 km = 137₹
