How to simplify work to save Time,
Money, and Efforts
Work simplification is the science of
making work easier and faster. There
are principles of work simplification
which can be used wherever there is
work to be done.
Every job consists of three parts:
1. The “get ready” or preparation.
2. The “do” or actual performance and
3. The “clean up” or putting things away.
There are Four (4) Methods of Reducing Work:
1. Eliminate parts or all of some jobs.
Examples:
• Wash-and-wear fabrics eliminate having to iron
clothes.
• Air-drying dishes eliminate having to dry them
with towels
• Using high-tech equipment such as vacuum
cleaner, washing machine, floor polisher, and
kitchenware such as electric airpot, osteorizer,
pressure cooker, rice cooker, and others
There are Four (4) Methods of Reducing Work:
2. Rearrange equipment, tools, and supplies.
Think through the problem where the item is
used, and plan to keep it as near there as possible.
This is called “Storing at the center of first use.”
Perhaps you need duplicates of some tools in order
to minimize steps,
There are Four (4) Methods of Reducing Work:
3. Simplify, by wise choice of materials, methods of
handling, and the desired ends.
Examples:
• When cleaning a room, finish one area before proceeding
to the next.
• Use the fewest number of motions, and learn to do some
work while seated, such as ironing, paring potatoes, or
shelling peanuts.
• Stack up all the stringbeans or other vegetables that you
can hold under your hand and slice across them all at
once.
• Work in a good light.
• Buy a few good multiple-purpose tools with corfortable
handles rather than, lots of cheap gadgets.
There are Four (4) Methods of Reducing Work:
4. Combine tasks to reduce labor.
Examples:
• Use both hands while working.
• Make each trip effective by using trays, carts,
baskets, and movable hampers.
• Prepare enough dry ingredients for several
recipes while the ingredients and tools are
assembled.
