VEHICLE ROUTINE CHECKS

CLASSIC DRIVING SCHOOL


Vehicle routine checks refer to the basic checks that should be conducted on a
motor vehicle daily before and after use.

PRE VEHICLE USE CHECKS:

 Water level in the radiator


 Level of engine oil in the sump using the dip stick
 Brake fluid
 Power steering fluid
 Leakages
 Fan belt tension
 Battery water(electrolyte level)
 Lights ( trafficators, head lamps, brake lights etc).
 Wipes
 Horn
 Tyre pressure (including spare tyre).
 Fuel level in the tank
 Accessories (jack, wheel spanner, tyre, chocks, fan belt, brake fluid, flash
light, reflective triangles etc).

POST VEHICLE USE CHECKS:

 Ensure that all lights are off


 Ensure that all accessories and vehicle parts are in place
 Check the dashboard for Odometer reading
 Make necessary entries in the vehicle log book

THE TYRE:

A tyre is a rubber ring placed over the rim of a wheel of a vehicle to provide
grip on the road surface and reduce shocks. Use the correct tyre and inner
tube (if required) for your vehicle.
TYRE PRESSURE:

Ensure that your tyres including the spares are correctly inflated at all times in
accordance with the recommended level for the tyre type. Check the manual
of your vehicle for the size of the tyre and correct pressure.

CAUTION:

 Worn-out tyres or tubes with multiple patches are unsafe


 Under or over inflation leads to uneven wear and blow-out of tyre.

The lifespan of a tyre is between 3-4 years. Avoid purchase of fairly


used tyres
