III. READING. Read the passage below.

Being wise helps you understand the situation better before you react. It is important because it helps
you make good choices and solve problems without making things worse. If you are wise, people will trust
you more because you are handling things in a thoughtful way. You will be able to make more friends. So,
being wise is not just about being smart at school; it is about being smart about life and how you deal with
everything that comes your way.
There are some super helpful tools you can learn to become wise. First, try to always have positive
thoughts. If you think good things, you are more likely to see the good in others. For example, if a friend does
not want to share their video games right now, instead of thinking, "They're mean!", you could think, "Maybe
they're still playing with it and will share later." Second, it is super important to tell the difference between
what you think is true (an assumption) and what you know is true (a fact). If your friend looks sad, you might
assume they are mad at you. But the fact might be that they just had a bad day. Instead of guessing, you can
directly ask how they feel to know the fact. Lastly, try to understand how other people feel. This is called
empathy. If your classmate is crying because they lost their favorite pencil, being wise means you do not
laugh it off and think they exaggerate it. Instead, you try to understand how sad they might feel and maybe
even offer to help them look for it. By doing these acts, you are building your wisdom skill every day!
So, remember that being wise in all parts of your life is a fantastic goal to have. It is not about knowing
all the answers, but about learning to understand what is happening, thinking carefully before you act, and
treating others kindly. Just like practicing your reading and writing makes you better at school, practicing
being wise in small things every day will help you grow into a truly wise person.
