TRAINING RECAP
WEEKLY REPEATED ITEMS:
● Set alarms and Calendar reminders for yourself!
● Every day do a 6:00 pm confirmation for the next days schedule via text to MOD. It
can be done anytime before 6:00 pm but no later. Include time in, time out, client first initial
and last name and at the bottom of text please note any keys/lockboxes you need or
that you have all of them.
● Every Saturday before 5:00 pm email BBPS with Drop, Keep and Need list for keys
and any Lockboxes needed for the week.
● Every Sunday your weekly keys MUST be dropped from prior week and new keys
picked up.
*Please note* The schedule is posted Fridays via email to the entire team. Up until the
schedule is posted, the following week schedule is NOT complete until you receive an
email stating that it is posted. The schedule period is from the coming Monday through
Sunday, and pay periods are Tuesday two weeks prior through the next Monday of pay
week. (bi-weekly)
VISITS:
● Make sure you read details before entering a home. Have alarm and entry information
in front of you while you are entering at all times.
● Assume every home has a camera monitoring you. Some of them have audio
recordings as well to monitor barking.
● Give yourself time to do a care report and text client their update.. Make sure you
check and see if the client wants updates and allows Facebook posts. (A lot of our
clients don't allow facebook)
● Let MOD handle any negative issues! NEVER bring anything to clients attention
without consulting manager first BEFORE leaving the visit.
● Communication is important! If there is something different than is stated in
details-TELL MOD!
● Remember to take pictures. Clients love pics with updates.
● Ensure all doors are locked and lights that were off, are off unless otherwise stated.
● Don't give treats to dogs unless you know that the client is ok with it. Even then be
sure that the right treats are given. Allergies happen!!
● If something is wrong i.e. a door was unlocked, a crated dog isn't crated, or you are
running behind; let MOD know.
● Collect mail if possible and ALWAYS GIVE FRESH NEW WATER EVERY TIME AND
ALWAYS SCOOP LITTER EVERY TIME!
● Any meds given must be listed along with the dose, time and pet name given to.
Follow med protocol.
● Clean during reservations EACH VISIT. Something small each times saves time and
has home client-ready in case they cancel last visit. Do not leave tasks for other sitters.
FACEBOOK:
● Try to do a couple of posts a day. Clear and good pictures only.
● Every post should include a link to bbps on the bottom that looks like this:
[Link]
● Make sure the client approves of Facebook before posting.
● See attachment in new hire email that shows how to post to facebook and walk clients
through online payments at intros.
INTROS:
● Have hard copies of forms with you every single time
● Collect money or have them pay online before leaving. Need to make sure manager
confirms that they received online payments before you leave!
● Any money or checks collected should be PUT IN AN ENVELOPE and clearly labeled
and dropped in Tess' s mailbox along with the three forms the client fills out. (Vet Auth ,
client info sheet short form, and contract) SAME DAY
● All client detail sheets should be typed the day of the intro when possible. If not
possible then no longer than 24 hours later. Let MOD know when you are completing.
Remember that intros are our time to assess pet temperament. If you have any concerns, let
MOD know before leaving!
Ask clients where their pets like or don’t like to be touched, any common hiding or sleeping
spaces where we may find them. Anything the pets are protective or defensive about?
When writing details, use date of birth instead of age (as ages change by year and their DOB
will remain the same).
Pet behavior
When on visits with dogs you do not know very well, read their behavior carefully and stay
out of “bite zone” for dogs that are not completely friendly and relaxed with you.
● Get key copies before leaving if required, make sure to TEST ALL KEYS before
leaving. Make sure keys collected are labeled before turning them in!
● ACT CONFIDENT EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT. To most people their animals are part of
the family. You are their first impression of the level of care they will receive.
● Pay attention to landmarks ie ponds, leasing offices, etc. You should include
directions especially if it is an apartment. Remember that sometimes apartment
buildings are easier to find during the day. Include these notes on the detail sheet.
● Even if the client states that we are only doing walking reservations; get all routine
info. Meals, bed time, crates, brooms, trash bins etc... most of the time the clients will
use us for pet sitting.
● Explain all forms including vet authorization. Ask MOD to explain how to word this
form. And always get MORE than one emergency contact that IS NOT a spouse or
partner.
OVERNIGHTS AND PET SITTING:
● Pet sitting is a different type of care than walking reservations.
● On last day of pet sitting we make sure we sweep or vacuum (mop when necessary),
if
collect all mail, leave things better than we found them. Clean as you go! Trash should
be gone on first visit.
● On overnights bring your own linens and pillows. Sack out on the couch unless client
prefers us to sleep in a room. Update them upon arrival and leaving the next morning
so they do not worry that we didn’t show.
● Pay close attention to meds, meals, and and overall pet care.
The most important part of our jobs:
LOVE THEM LIKE THEY WERE YOURS!!!
