RO-2 ORIFICE VALVE
ASSY. # 0203-XXX
DESCRIPTION
The Weatherford ALS Orifice Valve is 1.5” O.D. (38.1
mm) wire line retrievable. It is a normally open Gas Lift
valve with a fixed orifice for the purpose of injecting high
pressure gas into the production stream at a controlled
rate. It has an integral reverse flow check valve to
prevent back flow into the injection string should the
pressure in the production string become greater than
the pressure in the injection string.
FEATURES
• Standard service construction is 316ss stainless
steel. Sour service construction is Monel. Other
materials are available on request
• Seals are Viton. Other materials are available on
request.
• There is an integral reverse flow check.
• Trim is Tungsten Carbide.
APPLICATION AND OPERATION
When the valve is installed in the mandrel pocket, the
tubing is isolated from the casing by the two sets of
packing located on the orifice gas lift valve. High
pressure gas enters the mandrel ports and then proceeds
through the valve ports to the orifice. At the orifice gas is
metered into the production string where the pressure
drops to production pressure. Having a working
knowledge of the anticipated injection pressure and
production pressure the orifice can be sized to meter the
volume of gas required to operate.

MANUAL
The Orifice Valve can be used for metering other fluids
such as water and chemical, the same principals are
used to accomplish this.
If the pressure in the production string increases above
that of the injection string the reverse flow check will
prevent flow into the injection string.

DISSASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1. Place upper body (item 1) into the mounted wrench with
seat housing (item 8) facing to the right. Place the 2nd
wrench on seat housing (item 8), loosen and remove.
2. Place seat housing (item 8) into the mounted wrench with
lower packing body (item 15) facing to the right. Place
the 2nd wrench on lower packing body (item 15), loosen
and remove.
3. Place lower packing body (item 15) into the mounted
wrench with nose (item 11) facing to the right. Place the
2nd wrench on nose (item 11), loosen and remove.
4. Remove upper v-ring (item 2) and upper spacer ring
(item 3) from upper body (ITEM 1)
5. Remove lower v-ring (item 9) and lower spacer ring (item

6. Using the internal snap ring pliers remove the retaining
ring (item 4) from the seat housing (item 8).
7. Using a ¼” (6.350 mm) diameter x 6” (152.400 mm) long
rod, remove the seat (item 6) from the seat housing (item
8). Insert the rod through the lower end of the seat
housing until it lands on the seat. Push the seat out of the
seat housing.
8. Remove check dart (item 12), check seal (item 13), and
check seal retainer (item 14) from lower packing mandrel
(item 15).
9. Using the o-ring pick remove all o-ring seals and discard.
Discard all used packing.
10. Inspect all parts for damage and wear. Discard those parts
which are unusable.
ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1. Install the o-ring #210 (item 5) and o-ring #215 (item 7)
onto their respective parts. Apply Lubriderm grease to
the seals.
2. Apply Lubriderm grease to the packing mandrel of upper
body (item 1) and install 4 pieces of upper v-ring (item 2)
with the point of the “vee” leading on to upper body (item
1)
3. Install upper spacer ring (item 3) on to the upper body
(item 1)
4. Install 3 more pieces of upper v-ring (item 2) onto upper
body (item 1) but this time the “vee” will trail onto upper
body (item 1)
5. Apply Lubriderm grease to the packing mandrel of (item
15) and install 3 pieces of lower v-ring (item 9) with the
point of the “vee” leading on to (item 15)
6. Install lower spacer ring (item 10) on to (item 15)
7. Install 3 more pieces of lower v-ring (item 9) onto (item
15) but this time the “vee” will trail onto (item 15)
8. Having established the desired orifice diameter from the
well data, install seat (item 6) into seat housing (item 8)
9. Using the internal snap ring pliers install retaining ring
(item 4) into seat housing (item 8)
10. Install check dart (item 12) with the ball looking out of
lower packing mandrel (item 15)

into lower packing mandrel (item 15) as shown.
12. Install check seal retainer (item 14) into lower packing
mandrel (item15) with the internal cone trailing into lower
packing mandrel (item 15) as shown.
13. Apply pipe compound to the pin threads of seat housing
(item 8). Insert the pin threads of seat housing (item 8)
into the lower packing mandrel (item 15) and make up
handy making sure none of the inserted pieces are out of
alignment. Place seat housing (item 8) into the mounted
wrench with lower packing mandrel (item 15) facing left.
Using the 2nd wrench tighten lower packing mandrel (item
15) to seat housing (item 8)
14. Apply pipe compound to the pin threads of upper body
(item 1). Place upper body (item 1) into the mounted
wrench with seat housing (item 8) facing left. Using the
2nd wrench tighten seat housing (item 8) to upper body
(item 1)
15. Apply pipe compound to the pin threads of lower packing
mandrel (item 15). Place upper lower packing mandrel
(item 15) into the mounted wrench with nose (item 11)
