8.3.2. Technology Object "Motion Control"

Motion Control

Technology object “Motion Control”

→ Speed control
→ Positioning an axis
→ Synchronous speed control (relative and absolute)
→ Cam control etc.
Available functionality depends on the CPU

Information about the drive,

the communication etc. is
entered in the technology
object (a data block) with the
help of a Wizard

Motion Control refers to the control of position, velocity, acceleration or a combination thereof.
Electric motors, for example, are used as actuators/encoders for control.

Typical Application
• Speed control
• Point-to-Point positioning control
• Synchronous speed controls
• Cam (track) control

A virtual axis is created (data block) in which all properties of the drive are stored with the help of
a Wizard. With the help of this DB, the drive can be controlled in the easiest way.

S7-1500
Suitable are all drives or motors that support a control via a bus interface (PN, DP) according to
PROFIdrive profile or analog setpoint/actual values.

S7-1200
Suitable are all drives or motors that support a control via a bus interface (PN, DP) according to
PROFIdrive profile or analog setpoint/actual values.
Suitable are also all drives or control units that support a control via a pulse/direction interface.
