Scope of CPOMS Usage
While CPOMS is a robust tool for safeguarding, it’s
essential to delineate its specific applications:

Safeguarding and Child Protection – Record incidents

related to abuse, neglect, or any form of harm

Student Well-being – Document concerns about a student’s

mental or emotional health that may require intervention

It’s important to note that safeguarding, child protection,

and well-being are interconnected, but they each have
distinct facets. Staff should use their discretion and, when
in doubt, consult with the Designated Safeguarding Lead
(DSL) to determine the appropriate category for a concern
Exclusions from
CPOMS

CPOMS is not intended for recording:

Isolated Behavioral Issues – Minor infractions that

do not pose a safeguarding concern

Attendance Records – Routine attendance tracking

should continue through our existing systems

However, if behavioral issues or attendance patterns

suggest a deeper safeguarding concern, they should
be documented in CPOMS
Criteria
and Categories
To ensure consistency, we’ve established clear criteria Neglect – Signs that a student’s basic needs are not
for entries: being met

Immediate Risk – Situations where a student is Emotional Distress – Notable changes in behavior
in immediate danger or mood that raise concern

Suspected Abuse – Indicators of physical, emotional,

These categories are not exhaustive. As we progress,
or sexual abuse
we will review and amend them to reflect emerging
concerns and ensure comprehensive coverage
Implementation Steps
To facilitate effective use of CPOMS:

1. Training – All staff will undergo training sessions

to familiarize themselves with the system’s functionalities
and our internal protocols

2. Access Control – Permissions will be assigned based

on roles, ensuring that sensitive information is accessible
only to authorized personnel

3. Regular Reviews – The safeguarding team will conduct

periodic reviews of CPOMS entries to monitor trends
and assess the effectiveness of interventions
