Description
This screen is used to input fluid flow rate. It also displays the result of annular velocity in each geometric section. The various components are
described below.
Flow Rate Input
Two options are available for inputting flow rate, directly inputting flow rate, or using pumps to calculate flow rate.
Direct Input of Flow Rate
If Flow Rate radio button is selected, then the total flow rate can be input in the edit box next to the radio button. If Water Depth is
greater than 0 (in Geometry Input), and a riser pump is being used, then riser flow rate (or booster flow) can also be directly input in
Riser Flow edit box. The option to select "RiserLess Drilling" can also be made in this group.
Using Pumps to Calculate Flow Rate
If Use Pumps to Calculate Flow Rate option is selected, then the total flow rate is calculated from the information of the pumps input
in the grid. The fields and controls of the grid are listed as follows:
Liner Diam - diameter of the liner.
Stroke L - the length of a stroke.
Rod Diam - diameter of the Rod. Input this field only if the pump is duplex.
Efficiency - efficiency of the pump in percentage.
Pump Rate - number of strokes per unit time.
Max Press - maximum pump pressure that the pump can generate. This information will be used in the pressure versus flow rate graph
in VRDH module to determine the upper bound of the pump pressure shown in the graph. If this field is left empty, then 7000 psi
maximum pump pressure will be assumed.
Riser Pump - specifies whether the pump only generates riser flow.
- add a new row at the end of the grid
- delete the selected row
- move the selected row up
- move the selected row down
Choke/Kill Lines
The user may choose to pump through Choke/Kill Lines. In this case, the Choke/Kill Lines Diameters must be input.
By Pass Flow at BHA
When a by-pass is input as a part of the drill string in the Geometry Input form, the percentage of flow rate that goes through the by pass
and the total flow area of the by pass needs be input in this group.
Results
This displays the calculated flow rate in each annulus section by using the inputs above after Run button is clicked.
Control Panel
- When this button is clicked, all changes in the input form will be updated in global memory, so that all subsequent calculations
will use the new data. However, the changes made have NOT been saved permanently to the database at this point.
- When this button is clicked, the calculated flow rate in each geometry section will be displayed in the "Results" grid.
