Convert VH 2.71 to 3.1 Database Files

This document outlines the process for converting VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS data files from version 2.71 to version 3.1, emphasizing that files cannot be reverted back once converted. Users must first ensure that older files are in version 2.71 format before conversion, and the conversion utility only works with these specific files. The document also details the steps for performing the conversion and the importance of verifying data accuracy post-conversion.

Description

This utility should be used to convert old versions (version 2.71 only) of VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS data files to the new version. Databases once
converted to version 3.1 cannot be reverted back to old version, and care should be taken to not overwrite existing VH 2.71 data files. Existing
VH version 2.71 files have to be manually converted to version 3.1 file before they can be used in the new version. The database conversion utility
only works with VH 2.71 data files, so if older files exist, they have to be converted to version 2.71 format before they can be used. For these files,
first convert them to version 2.71 format (by using the File Manager utility in version 2.71) before they can be converted to version 3.1 format.

VH 2.7 Database
This group is used to input which VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS well data file to convert to new version. Use the "Drive" and "Folder" navigation
button to locate where the old version of VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS (version 2.71) is located on computer, and then highlight which file to convert.
Typically, VH 2.71 data files are located in C:\VIRHYD\VHWELLS sub-folder.

VH 3.1 Database
This group is used to specify the new file name for converted database. The new data files are stored in the VHWELLS sub-directory in the folder
where the new version 3.1 of VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS is installed (usually C:\Program Files\Virtual Hydraulics 3.1). By default, the version 3.1
file has the same name as the 2.71 file, however the user can also change the name if so desired. Since the 2.71 file and the 3.1 files are stored in
different locations, the same file name can be used without causing any problem.

Control Panel
- click on Run button to perform conversion.

Database Conversion Steps

1. Run VH 3.1, select "Utilities" and then "Database Conversion".

2. In the "VH 2.7 Database" group (left-hand portion of screen), navigate to the folder where VH 2.71 files are located (typically
C:\VIRHYD\VHWELLS), and select file you intend to convert. The corresponding version 3.1 file name is indicated in the "File Name" entry in
the "VH 3.1 Database" group (by default the file name is same as 2.71 file, however it can also be changed by user).

3. Click on "Run" to generate version 3.1 file.

4. Verify that all data from 2.71 file was converted correctly. Several new modules and data entries in existing modules have been added, so you
need to input data in these for version 3.1 to operate correctly. In addition, since the list of base oils for sunthetic and oil-based muds change
frequently, you need to make sure that the correct base fluid is being used for your fluid (Drilling Fluid Input Data screen).

Database Conversion Errors

The database conversion utility in VH 3.1 works only with file formats from version 2.71. VH files need to be in this format BEFORE they can be
converted to run correctly with version 3.1. If you have VH files older than this, you first need to open the file in VH 2.71 before converting them to
version 3.1 format. Opening the file in version 2.71 ensures that the file is compatible with that version and it is advisable to perform this step for all
files you intend to use in version 3.1. A new file is created when VH files are converted from 2.71 to 3.1 format, so 2.71 files are left intact and can
still be used in VH 2.71.
