SACRAMENT - A visible sign of invisible grace. It is instituted by Christ and gives grace.

7 SACRAMENTS:

✓ BAPTISM – first sacrament we need to receive. Through baptism, we are cleanse from
our original sin and became Child of God.
✓ CONFIRMATION – a sacrament that strengthens our baptismal grace.
✓ EUCHARIST – we hear the Word of God and we receive the Blood of Christ. It
augments our union with Christ, separates us from sin and preserves the unity of the
Church.
✓ RECONCILIATION – asking for forgiveness by confessing our sins to priest.
✓ ANOINTING OF THE SICK – Offers healing and strength during serious illness.
✓ MATRIMONY – Sacrament of unity and love between husband and wife.
✓ HOLY ORDERS – Sacrament that ordains men to the priesthood.

3 Categories of Sacraments:

1. Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist

2. Sacraments of Healing – Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick

3. Sacraments of Service – Holy Orders, Matrimony

Key Concepts:

• Eucharist: Means "thanksgiving" in Greek. Celebrates the Paschal Mystery (Passion,


Death, Resurrection of Jesus).

• Transubstantiation: Change of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus.

• Confirmation: Strengthens the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

• Reconciliation (Confession): Forgives sins committed after baptism.

• The Eucharist is not just a symbol; it is the Real Presence of Jesus.

• Fasting before receiving the Eucharist is required. 1 hour before the mass.

• The Altar is used for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

• The Ambo is the place from which Scriptures are proclaimed.

• Everyone, not just children, can go to Reconciliation.

• Liturgy of the Word: Includes the reading of the word of God. The start is during
procession.

• Liturgy of the Eucharist: Presentation of the bread and wine and receiving the body and
blood of Christ.
• Consecration: The prayer that changes bread and wine into the Body and Blood of
Christ.

• Paschal Mystery: The Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus.

• Last Supper: When Jesus instituted the Eucharist.

• Mission as children of God: To love, serve, and live as disciples of Christ.
