This module will cover an overview of how to create a visual presentation intended to make an impact. File sharing
over the Internet and the elements necessary to create an effective Infographic and video presentation will be presented
and used.

To be able to understand the content of this module, you need to do the following:
1. Understand what you are reading.
2. Do the required learning activities and answer the guide questions. This will help you assess yourself as to
how far did you understand the lesson.
3. After reading each lesson in the module, test your knowledge by answering the quizzes and other

4. Please be informed that 45% of your grade comes to any given performance tasks. Thus, you are

Lesson 2: The use of Infographics to present the Data

Graphic Design VS Information Design

GRAPHIC DESIGN INFORMATION DESIGN

Graphic design is mostly concerned with the visual elements such as the line, color, space and etc. Through the
harness of people’s artistic expression, these visual elements are arrange on a surface to create a layout and convey an
idea. In addition, graphic design also considered the principles of design which was already discussed in the previous
lesson such as contrast, balance, repetition, rhythm, unity and [Link] principles should have a relationship
between each other and should appear in every well designed piece. Once these elements and principles of design
brought together, graphic design exist. Please be reminded that graphic design is not only making things look nice, it is an
organization and presentation of information developed through a creative visual process for a particular function
and mostly focused on the visual elements and principles of design.
Information design, on the other hand, helps people understand the data around us. Look around you, data and
information surrounds us. But data is not the same as information. Data is useless unless it is clear, engaging and easily
absorb. Thus, information design is created to help the data make sense to people. Its primary goal is to ensure clarity
of communication. A good examples of information designs are street signs, restaurant menus and airport signs.

Infographic Design

Infographic is actually two words blended together, which are “information” and “graphic”, and it can be defined as an
organization and presentation of information intended to present the information easily and clearly. Infographic is also
known as data visualization. Infographics are confused with posters, but the two have different designs and purpose.
Posters only focuses on a specific subject, while Infographics explains the subject with the use of charts, images and
some text in a straightforward manner.
To make it more clear, here is an example. Let’s say you’re going to tell someone that you love him/her. Expressing
your feelings in an easiest way possible, you’ll probably use a poster and write the words, “I love you” would be the best
option. However, if you want to let that someone knows the reason why you love him/her and the dates as to when you
had fall inlove with him/her, Infographic would be the right choice as it will show all the information.

ELEMENTS OF INFOGRAPHICS

1. Descriptive Title And Subtitle

First impression matter for an infographic design. If you want to hook your
audience or readers, the title or the subtitle of your piece should be visually appealing
and must have strong introduction.
2. Informative Statistics
The most important part of an infographic is the accurate and informative data.
Just like when you’re doing a research paper, the information you presented should be
credible especially on the statistical data. It should be valuable, relevant and accurate.
So how to present the statistical data using Infographics? You may use charts or
visually appealing graphics to display informative statistics in your piece.
3. Bold, Thematically Appropriate Color Scheme
Just like creating a PowerPoint presentation, it is a must the you set a theme
relevant to your Infographic design. Choose a font style or a color scheme that is align
with the message that you’re trying to convey. Infographics is not only communicating
the information, it is also expressing a certain feeling. For example, if you’re creating
an Infographics about depression avoid those light-colored themes.
4. Eye-Catching Graphics
Aside form being interesting and informative, Infographics should also be eye-
catching since it will still concerned with elements and principles of design. You need
to bear in mind that you’re competing for the audience attentions upon creating an
Infographics when it comes to acquiring information related to their needs, so make
sure your piece will standout.
5. Clearly Organized, Sequential Story
An infographic is also telling a story. Without a story, an inforgraphic is just a
mere graphic. So when you create an infographic, ask yourself this following
questions.
1. What is the story I want to tell?
2. Is it relevant to my organization?
3. Why am I telling this story?
4. Who am I telling this story?
6. Highlights the most pertinent facts
Make sure that you put emphasis to the most important facts in your
Infographic by formatting them uniquely, whether you choose to highlight,
increase the font size, use a different font style ot make if bold.

TYPES OF INFOGRAPHICS

1. VISUAL ARTICLE
This infographic format makes a piece of writing or boring report more visual.
When to use:
 You need to cut down on text
 You want to make a plain article more interesting

 You’d like to increase the sharing potential of your infographic
2. TIMELINE
Use the timeline infographic format when you want to tell a
story chronologically.
When to use:
 show how something has changed over time
 make a long, complicated story easier to understand
 show how one thing leads to another
3. FLOWCHART
A flowchart infographic offers specialized answers to a question
via reader choices
When to Use:
 provide personalized answers for readers
 showcase how multiple situations can reach the same conclusion
4. COMPARISON
The comparison infographic format compares two ideas, concepts, or
objects.
When to use:
 highlight differences between two similar things
 highlight similarities between two unlike things
 prove one option is superior/inferior to the other
5. DATA VISUALIZATION OR STATISTICAL INFOGRAPHIC
Data visualization is ideal in illustrating complex data and information
through charts, graphs, and/or design.
When to use:
 make data-driven arguments easier to understand
 make facts and statistics more interesting to absorb
6. LIST-BASED INFOGRAPHIC
If you want to support a claim through a series of steps,
the list-based infographic format is a good option.
When to use:
 support a specific claim or argument
7. MAP INFOGRAPHIC
It is ideal for presenting and sharing data trends based on location
When to use:
 compare places and cultures using location-centric data
8. PROCESS INFOGRAPHIC
A process infographic helps explain the steps of a process, somehow similar
to the flowchart.
When to Use:
 Simplify and break down a complex process into easy-to-digest steps

Steps to Creating an Infographic

How can you create your own infographic? Actually, the steps to create an infographic are simple:

1. Outline your goals for creating your infographic.

2. Collect data for your infographic.
3. Make data visualizations for your infographic such as the use of different charts and graphs.
4. Create a layout.
5. Add style to polish your infographic design.2

CREATING INFOGRAPHICS USING CANVA

If you have an image authoring tools that you are familiar with, you may use that in creating an Infographics. But if
you don’t have the chance to create one using installed image authoring software or program in the computer. You may
freely use online image authoring tools such as Canva.
What is Canva? Canva is an easy-to-use graphic design tool that you use right in your browser. It allows you to
make professional-looking images and graphics. Canva provides a bunch of templates in the left side for use and as
inspiration.

How do we use Canva?

Canva is an easy to use graphic design platform. Go to the website, sign up for free, and choose the template
you like. The editor page will then appear.
After you have finished editing your Infographic, you can download the file as an image by clicking on “File” in the
menu bar and choosing “Download”. A dialog box will appear in the right side of the website. Then, you can choose
whether you want a JPEG file or a PNG file.

editor and the "Looks" blocks.

elements and principles of design. Make sure to create your own template by using a blank canvas.
3. Incorporate relevant images to visually represent your mini-research paper.
4. Use appropriate fonts, colors, and layout to enhance readability and visual appeal.
5. Write concise and clear text to accompany visual elements, focusing on conveying key points
effectively.
6. Print your output using a Vellum Paper for a high- quality and sturdy infographic.
7. Upon submission, kindly attached this paper at the back of the infographic in a separate bond paper.
