Key Probability Distributions Explained

The document discusses key concepts of various probability distributions, including binomial, Poisson, normal, and exponential distributions, each with specific applications. It highlights the importance of probability in predicting and managing risks, particularly in weather forecasting, where probabilities are used to assess the likelihood of weather events. Meteorologists utilize data to estimate weather conditions and provide forecasts based on these probabilities.

➢ Keys concepts such as Normal, Poisson, Binomial, exponential

distribution

Some examples of common probability distributions are:

- The binomial distribution, which models the number of successes in a fixed

number of independent trials with two possible outcomes (such as coin tosses
or yes/no questions).

- The Poisson distribution, which models the number of events that occur in a
fixed interval of time or space (such as phone calls or cars passing by).

- The normal distribution, which models the distribution of many natural

phenomena that are influenced by many small and random factors (such as
heights, weights, IQ scores, or errors).

- The exponential distribution, which models the time between successive

events that occur independently and at a constant average rate (such as
radioactive decay or customer arrivals).

4)IMPORTANCE OF PROBABILITY
Probability has many applications in life because it allows us to predict, analyze
and manage situations that involve Hazard and the risks of indetermination.
Here are some application of probability:

Weather Planning:

A probability forecast is an assessment of how likely an event can occur in

terms of percentage and record the risks associated with weather.
Meteorologists around the world use different instruments and tools to predict
weather changes. They collect the weather forecast database from around the
world to estimate the temperature changes and probable weather conditions
for a particular hour, day, week, and month.

Example

if there are 40 % chances of raining then the weather condition is such that 40
out of 100 days it has rained.
