Association Analysis of Customer Surveys

The document presents the analysis of customer satisfaction surveys from an online bookstore, restaurants, and working professionals regarding various attributes such as timeliness of deliveries, payment options, star ratings, price brackets, job security, and job satisfaction. The gamma coefficients calculated indicate a negative association between payment options and timeliness, a weak positive relationship between star ratings and price brackets, and a weak positive relationship between job security and job satisfaction. Overall, the findings suggest varying degrees of association among the surveyed attributes.

Q1) An online book store conducts a survey on their customers satisfaction with respect to
both the timeliness of deliveries(X) and payment options(Y). The data collected is
summarized in following table. Find out the association between X and Y and comment on
the same.

Nc−Nd
Solution- γ =
Nc+ Nd

Same order or concordant pairs (Nc)- Paired observations that show a positive association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is also ranked higher on
the dependent variable.
Nc= 7*46 = 322

Inverse order or Discordant pairs (Nd)- Paired observation that show a negative association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is ranked lower on the
dependent variable
Nd= 10*37 = 370

322−370
γ=
322+370
γ =−0.069
Interpretation- The gamma coefficient is -0.069 which indicates negative/no clear
relationship between the two attributes- payment options and timeliness is observed
Q2. The following table shows results of survey of 200 restaurants in terms of their start
rating and price bracket. Find out the association between two attributes and interpret the
result.

( Nc−Nd )
Solution- γ =
Nc+ Nd
Same order or concordant pairs (Nc)- Paired observations that show a positive association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is also ranked higher on
the dependent variable
Nc= 40*(30+12+20+20) +25*(12+20) +28*(20+20) +30*20 = 5800
Inverse order or Discordant pairs (Nd)- Paired observation that show a negative association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is ranked lower on the
dependent variable
Nd= 15*(28+30+10+20) +25*(28+10) +12*(10+20) +30*10= 2930
5800−2930
γ=
5800+2930
γ =0.329

Interpretation- Weak positive relationship exists between star rating and price bracket.
Weak tendency exists for price bracket to increase as star rating increases.

Q3. The following table shows the data of working professionals on job security and job
satisfaction. It is hypothesized that more job security will lead to higher job satisfaction.
Analyze the data and interpret it.
( Nc−Nd )
Solution- γ =
Nc+ Nd
Same order or concordant pairs (Nc)- Paired observations that show a positive association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is also ranked higher on
the dependent variable
Nc= 16*(17+60+11+56) +8*(60+56) +19*(11+56) +17*56 = 5457
Inverse order or Discordant pairs (Nd)- Paired observation that show a negative association:
the member of the pair ranked higher on the independent variable is ranked lower on the
dependent variable
Nd= 14*(19+17+9+11) +8*(19+9) +60*(9+11) +17*9 = 2361
5457−2361
γ=
5457+ 2361
γ =0.396
Interpretation- Weak positive relationship exists between star rating and price bracket.
Weak tendency exists for price bracket to increase as star rating increases.
