1. What was the objective of the lesson?
The objective of this 20-minute lesson was to enable students to use teen numbers
(11-19) to solve simple additions in a Maths contest situation.
2. How did we use the information we had about the group when planning our
lesson?
At first, we analyzed that the group of students we were to teach was between the
ages of 8-10. Thus, we make sure to make the material according to their ages and
needs. Then, we considered the fact that the students already knew the basic
numbers (1-10); thereby, permitting ourselves to design our activities considering
this previous knowledge.
3. During the lesson, at what stage of our lesson did we realize that our
students fulfilled the objective?
We were able to find out that our students understood the topic when 2 participants
correctly developed the fluent use activity. However, 17 remaining students could
not demonstrate their knowledge because of the limited time.
4. During the lesson, what, in our opinion, was the best moment as teachers,
and why?
In our view, the best part of our lesson was the Clarifying stage since it helped us
realize that students truly understood the topic. It was possible due to the correctly
developed CCQ’s that helped the students realize possible mistakes and prevent
themselves from making errors.
5. Was there a moment in which we felt our students were not learning?
From our perspective, we realized that our students were not learning during the
“Remember” stage. It happened because of the lack of clarity while giving
instructions. As a result, the learners were a bit confused.
6. What was the first impression we had of our lesson?
Our impression was that our lesson was appropriate enough for the group of
students we were given. Nonetheless, the time management did not go as we
expected, so we did not manage to fulfill all the activities we had planned.
7. Would you teach that lesson in the same way or differently? If so, what
would you change?
We would do it a bit differently by adapting properly our activities to the time we
dispose of. In other words, we would make shorter activities for this period of time
(20 minutes).
Personal as a teacher
1. What is something I take home from this lesson? Positive-something to
learn.
I would take home the way of manage the students in the Internalize part, in which
the teachers took the control of the class by asking them to smile, to play, and
enhance student's motivation by playing.
2. What is something you will need to reconsider when planning and teaching?
From my own perspective, I would think twice about the time management because
we didn't have enough time to complete all the activities.
3. What is something you will repeat next time you teach?
I would like to repeat the Encounter stage because it was simple and easy to
understand for students. I consider that that kind of presentations we should use for
our classes.
