The Importance of Methodologies and Approaches in Teaching
Escuela Normal de Amecameca
Methodologies and approaches are essential components in the teaching and learning process. They
form the foundation for how content is delivered, how students engage with knowledge, and how
learning goals are achieved.
Methodologies and approaches offer clear structures that help teachers decide what strategies to
use, how to organize content, and what types of activities are most effective. For example, a
communicative approach in language teaching prioritizes real life communication, so lessons must
focus on interaction and meaningful language use. That approach I consider that all my classmates
and I put in practice it because every class had to have a specific skill base and one of them was
specific speaking, in my case in secondary school we were checking the topic of water care in my
last class they make the final product it was a poster and they have to give an informative
presentation Infront of the classroom I consider that approach was successful, and they develop in
a correct way the activity, they share the information in a natural way but I notice that some of them
only read it and it wasn´t the purpose, also I thought that all the students could feel nervous and
didn´t want to participate but the most of their attitudes was positives and they express and
contribute to the activities with enthusiasm.
Also, the methodologies and approaches permit to select the right one to allows teachers to
respond to diverse learning styles in my case the most of my students in 3°D was auditory and I have
to base the most of my classes in audiolingual approach for example when I presented vocabulary I
use flashcards with the image of the verbs or and then I play an audio with a kind of ASMR sounds
and they have to select what verbs was in the image, in this case I consider it was a really successful
activity because all the class paid attention and they make inclusive like a kind of competence to see
how identify the vocabulary first, also I present the pronunciation with an audio an some activities
like reading I use audios, and also put it practice exercises of filling the gaps, other strategy base on
that approach that I implement was a group playlist, the students wrote in a post it their favourite
song in English and when they doing an individual activity I played the songs and it was a good
strategy to they learn the language in an implicit way, also in this case can enter the suggestopedia
to create a relax environment where the students feel comfortable during the develop of the
sessions.
Also approaches like project-based learning encourage students to collaborate and to solve
problems, in this case the sessions were develop in an individual way but in the final product was
necessary that they work in teams and look for solutions to solve the problem of the water waste in
their community.
In conclusion, the use of methodologies and approaches in teaching is fundamental to achieving
effective learning experiences. They allow educators to design meaningful, student centered
activities that address different learning styles and promote engagement. As demonstrated in the
examples from the classroom, approaches such as the communicative method, audiolingual
approach, and project-based learning helped students develop key skills like speaking, listening, and
collaboration. These strategies not only improved students’ participation but also fostered a positive
and inclusive learning environment. By thoughtfully selecting and adapting methodologies, teachers
