Project on Consumer Rights

Introduction

Consumer rights refer to a set of rights provided to the consumers to protect them from being exploited in the

market. These rights aim to ensure that consumers can make informed choices and are protected against unfair

trade practices.

The Six Consumer Rights

1. **Right to Safety**: Protection against goods and services that are hazardous.

2. **Right to be Informed**: Information about quality, quantity, price, etc.

3. **Right to Choose**: Access to a variety of goods and services at competitive prices.

4. **Right to be Heard**: Consumer interests will receive due consideration at appropriate forums.

5. **Right to Seek Redressal**: Fair settlement of genuine grievances.

6. **Right to Consumer Education**: Knowledge and skill to be informed consumers.

Consumer Responsibilities

Alongside rights, consumers also have responsibilities such as:

- Checking expiry/manufacturing dates.

- Demanding bills for purchases.

- Reading product labels carefully.

- Reporting unethical practices.

- Being aware of their rights.

Consumer Protection Act 1986

This act was passed to provide better protection of the interests of consumers and for the establishment of
