Humanity's enduring quest to celebrate love and union has given rise to diverse traditions and
ceremonies, ranging from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. This duality, the interplay
between personal moments and shared festivities, forms a crucial backdrop to our understanding
of marriage. "Inbam: The Abode of Happiness," seeks to explore these multifaceted dimensions
of marriage - not merely as a singular event, but as a continuum imbued with philosophical depth
and human experience. This thesis proposes an architectural journey that transcends conventional
wedding venues. Situated on a 29.89-acre site in Muttom, Kanyakumari District, "Inbam" aims
to immerse couples and their families in the grand narrative of love, commitment, and
community, from the intimate exchange of vows to the joyous celebration of union. The very
name, "The Abode of Happiness," suggests a continuous and multifaceted celebration, inviting
contemplation on the cyclical rhythms of relationships alongside the seemingly linear
progression of a shared life.
Existing institutions, while offering valuable spaces for ceremonies and receptions, often present
a fragmented view of this overarching experience. "Inbam" endeavors to create a holistic and
interconnected experience, where the intimacy of personal vows informs the grandeur of
communal celebration, and the traditions and rituals of diverse cultures resonate with universal
aspects of love and commitment. Drawing upon the principles of experiential and narrative
architecture, this project will explore how spatial organization, materiality, light, and interactive

subtly shift between intimate spaces and more open gathering areas, reflecting the ongoing

Aim:
To design a marriage destination and eco-resort, "Inbam - The Abode of Happiness," that narrates
the story of love and commitment through immersive architectural and celebratory experiences,
grounded in both tradition and contemporary values. To create a space that fosters a profound
understanding of the interconnectedness of individuals, families, and communities, encouraging
visitors to contemplate their place within this vast continuum. To inspire joy, wonder, and a sense
of responsibility towards the past, present, and future of relationships by engaging visitors
intellectually, emotionally, and sensorially with the unfolding narrative of love. To explore the
potential of architectural design to embody and communicate complex philosophical concepts
related to happiness, time, memory, progress, and the human condition. To establish "Inbam" as a
unique cultural and celebratory destination that promotes an appreciation for diverse traditions,

Objectives:
1. To develop a comprehensive thematic narrative framework for "The Abode of Happiness,"
outlining the key stages and stories to be conveyed within the marriage destination and eco-
resort.
2. To conduct a thorough analysis of relevant international and national case studies of wedding
venues, resorts, and cultural centers, focusing on their narrative strategies, architectural design,
and visitor engagement techniques.
3. To undertake a detailed site analysis of the Muttom location, considering its topography,
context, and potential for realizing the project's vision.
4. To define the spatial requirements for each of the identified architectural zones (e.g., ceremony
spaces, reception halls, accommodation, etc.) and other necessary functions of the marriage
destination and eco-resort, including circulation, visitor amenities, and support spaces,
culminating in a detailed area statement.
5. To develop a conceptual architectural design for "Inbam" that embodies the "Abode of
Happiness" concept and effectively translates the narrative framework and philosophical
considerations into spatial experiences, materiality, and form.
