Activity 2 example response — Establishing Positive Educator–Learner Relationships

Example Response

Dear Students,

Thank you for engaging so thoughtfully with the first activity! Now let’s look at how to
integrate environmental aspects, as discussed by Belvel (section 5.5), to further support the
strategies you designed.

Below, I have explained how to incorporate these environmental aspects to build a warm,
safe, and empowering classroom atmosphere:

Physical Environment

I would arrange the classroom in a way that encourages interaction and participation. For
example, instead of rows, I might use a U-shape or small group clusters. This setup makes it
easier for learners to see each other, share ideas, and feel included. In my experience, when
learners sit in groups, they feel more comfortable sharing and helping each other, which
builds confidence and strengthens peer relationships.

Emotional Climate

Creating a positive emotional climate means building trust and showing genuine care. I
would greet learners warmly each morning, celebrate small successes, and use positive
reinforcement. For instance, during group work, I walk around and give verbal praise such as,
"I can see great teamwork here!" or "Well done on helping your friend understand the task."
This boosts self-esteem and encourages active engagement.

Social Interaction

To support social connections, I would encourage activities that involve teamwork, like pair
work or group projects. Setting up a "buddy system" can help quieter learners feel more
secure and willing to participate. From my past classroom experience, pairing a confident
learner with a shy one often helps the shy learner gain confidence and feel more supported.

Resource Availability
Having accessible resources, such as extra reading materials, visual aids, and hands-on
learning tools, is crucial. I would ensure that learners know where to find these resources and
feel comfortable using them. For example, in a science lesson, providing simple models or
diagrams at each table can help different learning styles and encourage students to explore
concepts independently or with their peers.

Classroom Culture

Finally, establishing a respectful and inclusive classroom culture is essential. I would create
class agreements or "rules" together with learners, so they feel ownership and responsibility.
Regularly reflecting on these agreements together promotes respect and makes learners feel
valued and safe to express themselves.

Sharing Your Response

Once you've crafted your strategies using these environmental aspects, please share them on
the platform. We look forward to seeing your practical and creative ideas and discussing
them as a group!

Good luck, and remember: a positive classroom environment begins with small,
intentional actions that show every learner they matter!
