Project Workplan: Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S.

Title: Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. – Nurturing Understanding and Mastery of Basic Education in Arithmetic
through Responsive Strategies
School: Dadda Elementary School
School Year: 2025–2026

🔷 I. Rationale

The results of various national and local assessments (e.g., NAT, ELLNA, and school-based formative
assessments) reveal that many learners across grade levels are struggling in numeracy. The observed
learning gaps, particularly in solving basic mathematical operations, problem-solving, and number sense,
have negatively impacted the learners’ academic growth and confidence.

To address these challenges, Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. was conceptualized as a responsive, inclusive, and
strategic numeracy development initiative aligned with the DepEd MATATAG Agenda, BE-LCP, and
DepEd Order No. 13, s. 2018 (Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment) to bridge learning gaps and
empower both teachers and learners toward improved mathematical literacy.

🔷 II. Objectives

1. Enhance learners' numeracy skills through contextualized and scaffolded interventions.

2. Strengthen teachers’ capacity to deliver effective numeracy instruction.

3. Foster community and parental involvement in numeracy enhancement activities.

4. Track and monitor learners’ numeracy progress through data-driven assessments.

5. Reduce the percentage of non-numerates by at least 20% by the end of SY 2025–2026.

Title: Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. – Strengthening Young Scientific Thinkers through Engaging Methods
School: Dadda Elementary School
School Year: 2025–2026

🔷 I. Rationale

Science education is vital for developing critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills.
However, recent assessments and classroom observations reveal that many learners struggle to connect
scientific concepts with real-life applications due to a lack of hands-on learning, resources, and
opportunities for scientific inquiry.

To address these gaps and promote meaningful learning experiences, Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. was launched.
The project aims to strengthen learners’ scientific literacy, stimulate curiosity, and create a culture of
inquiry and discovery through engaging, interactive, and contextualized science activities. It is aligned
with the K to 12 Science Curriculum, DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2017 (Policy Guidelines on the National
Assessment), and the MATATAG agenda.

🔷 II. Objectives

1. Develop learners’ scientific thinking, inquiry, and process skills through interactive and
exploratory activities.
2. Promote the use of locally available materials to support hands-on science learning.

3. Build teacher capacity in facilitating science experiments and inquiry-based instruction.

4. Involve parents and community partners in supporting learners’ scientific endeavors.

5. Organize science-themed events that showcase learners' creativity and understanding.

Both projects emphasize community involvement as a crucial factor in educational success. Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. incorporates community and parental involvement through activities like the Parent Orientation & Involvement Session and the distribution of Home Numeracy Kits, aiming to strengthen learner support at home . Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. engages community through science-themed events that involve parents, such as the Science Parent Partners Program and the Science Fair, which help integrate learning with community resources and parental support . These engagements ensure that educational interventions are reinforced outside the formal classroom setting, enhancing overall educational outcomes .

Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. utilizes strategic partnerships with stakeholders such as the school governing body, GPTA, and private sector donors. These partnerships contribute to funding through MOOE Allocation, Brigada Eskwela, and corporate social responsibility donors, which help cover costs for materials, workshops, kits, and events. This collaboration not only supports financial requirements but also increases resource availability, enhancing the implementation effectiveness of the project's objectives .

Dadda Elementary School employs several innovative approaches across Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. and Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. In numeracy, strategies like peer tutoring, home numeracy kits, and motivating challenges such as the Math Wizard Challenge engage students actively and make learning interactive. In science, hands-on learning activities like Science Lab on Wheels and the incorporation of local materials through 'Eco-Experiments' engage students in practical, inquiry-based learning. These approaches foster a culture of enthusiasm and exploration, significantly enhancing learning outcomes by making education more relevant and engaging for students .

Teacher capacity building is critical for the success of Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. It is primarily achieved through workshops focused on inquiry-based science education, which equip teachers with skills necessary to facilitate hands-on and exploratory learning. This professional development fosters an ability to guide students effectively in practical scientific investigations, thereby improving the overall quality of science instruction. Empowered teachers can better engage students and support the program's goals of developing scientific literacy and curiosity .

The objectives of Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. align with the MATATAG Agenda by focusing on inclusivity, effectiveness, and strategic interventions in numeracy education. The project's emphasis on skill enhancement through scaffolding and contextualized learning, along with community involvement, mirrors the DepEd’s goal of fostering a learner-centered approach. Furthermore, its adherence to Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment ensures that assessment methods are aligned with national standards, allowing for accurate tracking of learner progress .

Progress and success in Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. are measured through baseline and endline science skills assessments, which provide data on learner improvements over time. Documented impacts include enhanced scientific literacy and inquiry skills among learners, increased engagement in science activities, and improved assessment results. The project has also empowered teachers to use more effective, inquiry-based strategies and strengthened stakeholder involvement, enhancing both the educational process and community investment in scientific education .

Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. implements several initiatives to improve numeracy, including contextualized and scaffolded interventions, teacher workshops, and community involvement. These initiatives specifically target gaps identified in assessments by enhancing numeracy skills through remedial programs like Math Clinic, using peer tutoring with the Math Buddy Program, and extending learning to the home via numeracy kits. Tracking learner progress with baseline and endline assessments helps measure effectiveness, while community and parental engagement builds additional support systems .

Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. addresses this issue through hands-on and exploratory science activities like 'Eco-Experiments' using local materials and Science Lab on Wheels. These activities, along with inquiry-based learning strategies, offer students practical experiences that help them relate scientific concepts to everyday life. Additionally, engaging parental and community partnerships further extends learning beyond the classroom, encouraging real-life application of scientific thinking .

Project N.U.M.B.E.R.S. ensures sustained improvement in numeracy skills through ongoing teacher capacity building workshops and regular math clinics which provide continuous support and skill reinforcement. The Math Buddy Program encourages peer learning, fostering an environment where students can help each other learn over time. By maintaining data-driven assessments, the project can track long-term progress and adapt interventions as necessary. This strategic approach is designed to reduce non-numeracy rates and enhance learner confidence over the long term .

Project S.Y.S.T.E.M. leverages local materials through its 'Eco-Experiments,' which encourage students to engage with science using resources readily available in their environment. This approach makes science more accessible and relevant, fostering resourcefulness and creativity. Benefits include reduced costs, as local materials are often cheaper, and increased student engagement, as experiments are more relatable to real-world settings. This strategy supports sustainability and deeper environmental understanding .
