Smart Band with Web Dashboard for
Alzheimer’s Care

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that

impairs memory and cognitive functions, impacting millions of
elderly individuals worldwide. As the condition worsens, patients
require continuous monitoring and support in daily life.
Our project aims to provide a tech-enabled, caregiver-friendly
solution through a Smart Band and Web Dashboard, designed to
ensure patient safety, streamline care, and reduce stress on
family members and caregivers
Alzheimer's patients often get lost due to memory
loss and disorientation.

Caregivers struggle to track health vitals and

location in real-time.
PROBLEM Existing solutions are expensive, complex, or lack

STATEMENT essential features.

No easy way to send alerts during emergencies like

falls or health issues.

Need for a smart, affordable, and integrated system

to ensure patient safety and caregiver peace of
mind.
HOW THIS PROJECT IS
DIFFERENT?
1. All-in-One Solution: Combines health monitoring, location tracking, fall detection, and
emergency alerts in one device.
2. Web-Based Dashboard: Easy-to-use website instead of a complex app—accessible on any
device.
3. Alzheimer-Focused Design: No display on the band to avoid confusion or tampering by
patients.
4. Instant Alerts: Sends SMS notifications to family and doctors in case of abnormal vitals or
falls.
5. Geo-Fencing Feature: Set safe zones with alerts if the patient leaves them.
6. Find My Band + Buzzer: Easy tracking with a band-locating feature and physical buzzer
sound.
TOOLS

NodeMcu Neo-6M GPS JUMPER

MAX30102
/ESP8266 Module
BREADBOARD

BUZZER MPU6050 PUSH BUTTON

USB CABLE
CONNECTIONS GPS Module (NEO-6M): Its TX and RX pins are
connected to D1 (GPIO5) and D2 (GPIO4), and it's
powered by 3.3V and GND.

Pulse Sensor (MAX30102): Uses the same D1

(SCL) and D2 (SDA) pins for I2C communication.
It's also powered by 3.3V and GND.

Motion Sensor (MPU6050): Connected via I2C to

D3 (SCL, GPIO0) and D4 (SDA, GPIO2), with 3.3V
and GND for power.

Push Buttons: One button is between D5

(GPIO14) and GND, and the other between D6
(GPIO12) and GND. They act as inputs.

Buzzer: Connected to D7 (GPIO13) for sound

output. Positive goes to D7, and negative to GND.
Archiecture of system

The Smart Alzheimer’s Band is built around the NodeMCU ESP8266,

which connects to a heart rate sensor, MPU6050 (for fall detection),
GPS module, SOS button, and buzzer. These sensors monitor the
patient’s health and safety in real time.
Data is sent via Wi-Fi to Firebase Realtime Database, including
heart rate, fall/SOS status, and location. A web dashboard (using
Firebase SDK and [Link]) lets caregivers view live stats, maps,
and alerts. In emergencies, alerts are instantly sent to the
caregiver’s phone via the Telegram Bot API.
This setup enables real-time monitoring, quick alerting, and remote
support for Alzheimer’s patients.
FLOW CHART

The Smart Alzheimer’s Band activates on power-up, initializing the NodeMCU and sensors:
MAX30102 (heart rate), MPU6050 (motion), GPS, buzzer, and SOS button. It then connects to Wi-
Fi for real-time data transmission.
The band continuously monitors heart rate, detects falls, tracks location, and checks the SOS
button. On detecting a fall or SOS press, it updates Firebase, triggers the buzzer, and sends a
Telegram alert to the caregiver.
Live data is pushed to Firebase and displayed on a web dashboard showing heart rate, location,
and alerts. Caregivers can also mute or reset alerts, ensuring quick response and patient safety.
METHODOLOGY AND DISCUSSION
SYSTEM DESIGN:-
Heart Rate Sensor and Blood Pressure Sensor for health monitoring.
GPS Module to track the real-time location of the patient.
SOS Button for emergency alerts.

IMPLEMENTATION:-
The ESP32 is programmed using the Arduino IDE.
Sensors are initialized and calibrated in the setup.
In the main loop, sensor data (heart rate, blood pressure) is read and GPS
coordinates are fetched.
The system continuously monitors the SOS button.

AI-Based Health Prediction and Anomaly
Detection-AI can be used to detect
health issues early by analyzing sensor
data and alerting caregivers for timely
action.

Space optimization from prototype to

actual band

FUTURE SCOPE Battery Optimization: Use deep sleep

modes and better power management to
improve battery life.

Mobile App: Develop a companion app to

view real-time vitals and location on the
go.
ADVANTAGES
Enhanced Safety: Real-time location tracking and geo-fencing reduce
the risk of patients getting lost.

24/7 Health Monitoring: Continuous tracking of heart rate, pulse, and

BP ensures timely response to emergencies

Remote Access: Family and doctors can monitor and manage

everything from the website, anytime, anywhere

Emergency Alerts: Fall detection and abnormal vitals trigger instant

SMS alerts to caregivers and medical personnel.

Cost-Effective: Provides multiple essential features at a lower cost than

existing commercial solutions.
RESULT & DISCUSSION

The Alzheimer’s Smart Band successfully monitored vital signs (heart rate , blood
pressure , pulse), tracked real-time location using GPS, and triggered audio alerts
through the SOS button.. This confirms the band’s effectiveness in providing
basic health monitoring and emergency support for Alzheimer’s patients. After
the current model works well, future upgrades like mobile app integration and
AI-based health alerts can greatly enhance its functionality and reliability.
