II. Project Initiative Background and Rationale
School Shared Vision: (State your School Shared Vision in the text box provided below)
Sta. Maria National High School envisions a community of young journalists committed to truth,
integrity, and impactful storytelling. Through our journalism program, we equip students with the skills
and ethics needed to amplify diverse voices, analyze societal issues, and inspire positive change.
Our school-based press conference offers students hands-on experience in writing, interviewing, and
reporting, fostering a collaborative environment for skill development. Our goal is to empower ethical
communicators ready to make a meaningful impact through the stories they tell.
SMART Goal: (State your School Shared Vision in the text box provided below. Please take note you can
further improve your SMART Goal based on the developments of your Project Initiative Plan)
Increase by 10% the number of students demonstrating proficiency in journalistic writing, with
baseline levels of 25% in news writing, 20% in editorial writing, 15% in feature writing, and 10% in
sports writing, by the end of SY 2025-2026 through targeted workshops, mentorship, and practice-based
assessments.
III. Project Initiative Description
I. Project Initiative Description
The "School-Based Press Conference Program" at Sta. Maria National High School is designed to
develop students' journalism skills and foster a culture of responsible reporting and critical thinking.
Recognizing the vital role of journalism in society, this program aims to equip students with essential
competencies in news gathering, writing, editing, and publishing, enabling them to effectively
communicate, inform, and engage with their community. This initiative aligns with the school's vision to
nurture ethical, skilled, and socially aware young journalists prepared for meaningful participation in
society.
Through the School-Based Press Conference, students will gain hands-on experience in a real-world
journalistic environment, participating in activities like news writing, editorial writing, feature writing, and
broadcasting. The program includes workshops, mentorship, and competitive practice sessions to hone
students' abilities in accuracy, fairness, and storytelling. By providing a platform for young journalists to
showcase their skills, the program encourages active student engagement and a deeper understanding of
the responsibilities of the press.
The rationale behind this program is to bridge the gap in student journalism education, creating an
inclusive and supportive environment that fosters growth and collaboration. The school-Based Press
Conference offers students the chance to build confidence, work collaboratively, and develop a passion
for truth and ethical reporting. This initiative not only builds foundational journalism skills but also instills
values of integrity, accountability, and respect for diverse perspectives, contributing to the school’s
commitment to lifelong learning and community impact.
IV. Target Stakeholders’ Description
Stakeholders Roles in the Project:
1. School Journalism Coordinator – Leads in organizing and overseeing the press conference,
consolidating student outputs, and reporting overall project progress to the School Head.
2. English and Social Studies Teachers – Provide training and support in writing, reporting, and
editing; conduct initial assessments of students' journalism skills to identify areas for improvement;
submit student performance data to the School Journalism Coordinator for planning future sessions.
3. School Head – Provides technical assistance in planning and implementing the press conference,
ensuring alignment with the school's vision for journalism and media literacy.
4. Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in English and Journalism – Offers technical guidance
and monitors the execution of the press conference program, ensuring that best practices in
journalism education are followed.
5. Parents – Encourage and support their children’s involvement in the press conference by fostering a
conducive environment for practice at home; PTA Officials may provide financial support for
program materials and other logistics.
6. Donors – Private entities, NGOs, and LGUs that donate resources such as journalism materials,
snacks, or small incentives for students, fostering motivation and recognizing students' participation
and progress in the program.
7. Other Volunteers – These are stakeholders, including alumni or local journalists, who assist

more comprehensive learning experience.
V. Workplace Application (WAPP) Project or Job-Embedded Learning
Steps in the Project Implementation Process: School-Based Press Conference
1. Instructional Leaders Professional Development Program – Instructional leaders and the
School Journalism Coordinator will develop a Project Implementation Plan (PIP) aligned with the
goals of the School-Based Press Conference, focusing on journalism skills development and
student engagement.
2. Funding Allocation – The School Head will allocate a portion of the Maintenance and Other
Operating Expenses (MOOE) to purchase essential materials such as notebooks, recording
devices, cameras, and other resources for journalism activities.
3. Preparation of Materials – Teachers involved in the program will create resource materials,
including writing templates, interview guides, and press badges, which will be distributed to
students for their journalism activities.
4. Orientation Sessions for Students and Parents – Teachers will conduct orientation sessions
for students, parents, and other involved stakeholders, explaining the program’s goals,
expectations, and schedules, while distributing materials for home support and practice.
5. Data Collection and Monitoring – The School Head, along with the Public Schools District
Supervisor (PSDS) and Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in Journalism, will collect data on
student participation and performance and monitor the ongoing implementation to ensure
program goals are being met.
6. Student Journalism Passport – The EPS will develop a “Journalism Passport” for students,
where they can track their progress through different journalism activities, milestones, and skill
achievements. This passport serves as a motivational tool and provides a record of each
