Having worked for almost half a decade in the oil and Gas industry, I felt to aware you all on
how this critical topic.
What comes to your mind when you first think of diesel is Probably Diesel Creta, Diesel
Fortuner or Even the Mercedes GLS, right? We know they already have better alternatives.
Then why diesel. Its because these consume only 10% of the diesel that India uses each
day? By the way, does anyone know how much liters of diesel India consumes each Day?
Any Guesses? India consumes a staggering 30 crore liters of diesel every single day. Out of
this 30 crs, sadly 27 crore liters of diesel have no viable alternative. Today let us talk only
about this 27 Cr liters.
One of the reasons we all came to this course is because Data is the new Oil. But who
powers this new oil, Your old oil, the diesel. You can see here a stack of DG sets at the NTT
DATA, one of the largest data centers in India.
Consider anyone of us is working in Mastercard or Amex, and has developed an amazing
code on detecting fraud credit card trxns and the code is working [Link] is a fraud
transaction initiated by someone and the same moment there is power cut at the data center,
the server could not run your fraud detection code, and the loss if of Crores of Rupees. But
never mind we Indians have brilliant minds and a few crores of Rupees is something we can
easily earn again.
But imagine a hospital with around 50 patients in the ICU. Suddenly, there's a blackout. For
a few minutes, all the equipment stops working, and oxygen isn't being pumped. And, Fifty
lives… The loss here is irreplaceable. You cannot replace life.
A power cut at the mobile tower, no instagram reels, no sending snaps to friends. Just
imagine India’s growth if the industries, good transport, intercity , interstate buses,
agriculture, mining, construction of highways, metro projects,all would go on a halt.
Diesel consumption in India has grown at a rate 75% higher than the global average. As per
the reports from International Energy Agency, India is the 3rd largest consumer of Diesel
after USA and China. But At the same time India is also the 3rd largest contributor of Carbon
Emissions. We want to become no. 1 economy by 2047 and also net zero. Difficult right?
Well I earlier said that we Indians have brilliant minds and I was fortunate enough to work
with 2 such brilliant people from my very town of Pune Chetan and Aditi Walunj who crafted
this innovative solution of Door step diesel Diesel Delivery with the sole aim of reducing
carbon emission. Recognizing their Innovation GoI on 29th May 2019, officially legalised the
door step delivery of diesel through these special purpose vehicles. Earlier these entire fleet
of trucks/ buses used to travel extra miles to the petrol pumps just to refuel diesel. The
hospitals, industries, hotels, construction sites would send their truck loaded with barrel to
the petrol pumps, fill diesel come back to the site, refill into other heavy equipments, cranes,
Generator sets. Imagine the losses incurred due the dead mileage, pilferages, spillage. We
lose 27 million liters every single Day. A loss of Rs. 700 billion each year. So instead them
coming to the petrol pumps these special purpose vehicle go to their individual sites to
deliver diesel. Now dont these vehicles also run on diesel But thanks to the IOT controlled
devices installed in them and the amazing route optimization algorithm that they work on. I
recall one of my customers, which was a municipal corporation, so they have garbage
collecting vans who run throughout the city. Do you know how much was their wastage due
to dead mileage? 1 Cr Rs worth of diesel was wasted each year just due to dead mileage.
And With adoption of this concept they could not only save 65 lakh Rs. on diesel but also
reduce 200 tonnes of Carbon Emissions equivalent to growing 8000 mature [Link] there
are numerous examples. The first bullet train project of the country, the Leh airport project,
from Data centers in Hyderabad, bangalore, Pune to the metro projects at Mumbai, Delhi
Chennai, from Kaling Coal Mines to the KGF Gold mines. All of these have not only being
able to save their expenses on diesel but also have actively contributed towards reduction in
Carbon emissions from the left out 27 Crore Liters.
Correlating to what Macholm Said, “Future belongs to those who prepare for it today”, So
while some of our brilliant minds are working on developing new renewable alternatives, few
of us other brilliant minds develop innovative solutions like these to reduce carbon emissions
without compromising on our economic growth.
