Study Habits and GPA Analysis

The document outlines a research project investigating the relationship between students' study habits and their academic performance, specifically focusing on study hours and GPA. It provides a dataset of 10 students, including their study hours and corresponding GPAs, and lists several statistical calculations to be performed, such as means, variances, covariances, correlation coefficients, and linear regression equations. Additionally, it mentions the need to plot the data and draw regression lines.

You are a group of education researchers interested in how

students’ study habits relate to their academic performance. To

investigate this, you survey 10 students and collect the following
data:

• X: Number of hours spent studying per week

• Y: GPA at the end of the semester (on a 4.0 scale)

INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT OF STATISTICS

You gather the following data:

Student Study Hours per GPA (Y)

Week (X)

1 5 2.4

2 10 2.8

3 8 3.0

4 15 3.2

5 7 2.7

6 12 3.4

7 3 2.1

8 9 3.0

9 6 2.5
10 14 3.5

a) Calculate the mean of X (study hours)

b) Calculate the mean of Y (GPA).
c) Calculate the variance and standard deviation for both
variables for sample
d) Calculate the variance and standard deviation for both
variables for population
e) Calculate the covariance between X and Y.
f) Calculate the correlation coefficient (r) between X and Y.
g) Determine the linear regression equation: Y on X (predict
GPA from study hours)
h) Determine the linear regression equation: X on Y (predict
study hours from GPA)
i) Plot the data and draw both regression lines.
