Heat Load Calculation formula
Formula
Q = U × A × ∆T
Q : Heat transfer rate
U : Rate of heat transfer through a material or structure
A : Area
∆T : Difference between indoor and outdoor air temperatures
1. Heat gain through Glass
Q = U × A × ∆T
U : Rate of heat transfer through a Glass material
A : Area of glass
∆T : Difference between indoor and outdoor air temperatures
2. Heat gain through Wall
Q = U × A × ∆T
U : Rate of heat transfer through a wall
A : Area of wall
∆T : ETD + CETD
ETD : Equivalent temperature difference
CETD : Corrective equivalent temperature difference
3. Heat gain through Partition
Q = U × A × ∆T
U : Rate of heat transfer through a partition
A : Area of Partition
∆T : ( Outdoor Dry Bulb Temperature – Indoor Dry Bulb Temperature) -5° F for normal partition
( Outdoor D.B.T – Indoor D.B.T) + 15°-5° Use this formula For kitchen attached room only
( Outdoor D.B.T – Indoor D.B.T) + 10° f For kitchen partition
4. Heat gain through Roof
Q = U × A × ∆T
U : Rate of heat transfer through a Roof
A : Area of Roof
∆T : Outdoor D.B.T – Indoor D.B.T
5. Heat gain through Ceiling/floor
Q = U × A × ∆T
U : Rate of heat transfer through a Ceiling/floor
A : Area of Ceiling/floor
∆T : (Outdoor D.B.T – Indoor D.B.T) -5℉
6. Heat gain through Infiltration
Q = Qs + QL
Qs = Sensible heat gain = Cfm × ∆T × 1.08
QL = Latent heat gain = cfm × ∆T × 0.68
∆T = Outdoor D.B.T – Indoor D.B.T = 106℉ -86℉ = 20℉
∆T = Outdoor Humidity ratio – Indoor Humidity ratio = 100−800 = 20
7. Heat gain through ventilation Air
Q = Q S + QL
QS = C. f. m × ∆T × 1.08 × B.F (Bypass factor)
QL = C.f.m × ∆T × 0.68 × B.F (Bypass factor)
8. Heat gain through outside Air
Q = Q S + QL
QS = C. f. m × ∆T × 1.08 × B.F ( Contact factor)
QL = C.f.m × ∆T × 0.68 × B.F (Contact factor)
9. Heat gain through People
Q = Q S + QL
QS = No. of people × Btu/hr
QL= No. of people × Btu/hr
10. Heat gain through kitchen Appliances
Heat gain ( Btu/hr) = Power (watt) × 3.413
11. Heat gain through motors
Heat gain ( btu/hr) = Motor power input (watts) × ( 1− Motor Efficiency) × 3.413
12. Heat gain through Electrical Equipment
Heat gain ( btu/hr) = power input (watts) × 3.413
13. Heat gain through Lights
Q = watts × 3.413× 1.2 Blast factor
