Energy and Work Calculations for a 15 kg Object

The document presents a physics problem involving a 15 kg object lifted up a ramp and then pushed horizontally. It requires calculations of gravitational potential energy, work done against gravity, components of force, work done by the pushing force, power exerted, kinetic energy, and total mechanical energy transferred. Additionally, it poses a question about the effect of changing the angle of the pushing force on the work done.

Advanced Energy, Work, and Power Problem

A 15 kg object is lifted from the ground to the top of a ramp 4 meters high. The ramp is 6 meters long and

inclined. After reaching the top, the object is pushed horizontally along a surface for 5 meters with a force of

25 N applied at an angle of 30° above the horizontal. The pushing takes 2.5 seconds, and the object ends up

moving at 3 m/s.

a) Calculate the gravitational potential energy gained by the object when lifted to the top of the ramp.

b) Calculate the work done against gravity when lifting the object up the ramp.

c) Calculate the component of the pushing force that actually does work along the horizontal surface.

d) Calculate the work done by the pushing force over the 5 meters.

e) Calculate the power exerted during the push.

f) Calculate the kinetic energy of the object at the end of the push.

g) Find the total mechanical energy transferred to the object during the entire process (lifting plus pushing).

h) If the pushing force were applied directly horizontally (0° angle), would the work done increase, decrease,

or stay the same? Explain briefly.
