The best approach to securing our website will depend on the sensitivity of the data we store

and the amount of time and effort our team can dedicate to monitoring security. It’s important to
monitor our website regularly for security issues and to apply frequent software updates to
protect against newly uncovered security vulnerabilities. Additionally, we need to ensure that our
server has antivirus and malware protections installed and that this software is frequently
updated.

The amount of security we’ll have to manage ourselves will vary across different hosting plans.
For example, antivirus and malware protections are the responsibility of the web host for shared
hosting plans, but typically will be our responsibility if our website is hosted using a dedicated
server or virtual private server.

If we don’t have a sufficient team to manage the antivirus and malware protections, we could
also consider a managed hosting plan. In that case, the web hosting service would be
responsible for all security issues and software updates.

Independent of our hosting service choice, we should keep a few other security factors in mind.
For example, we should install a secure socket layer (SSL) certificate on our server. This
certificate encrypts and authenticates data when communicated across the network, making it

A secure protocol can encrypt large data files, such as videos, much like an SSL certificate
encrypts text data.

Finally, we should always ensure to run regular backups on our site. That way, if our site is
compromised or taken down, we can easily restore it. These backups can be performed either
manually or automatically, depending on the platform. By considering all of these factors, we
can ensure that we will be hosting our website securely.
