Major Duties
As the Director for Programs and Projects, the incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, and
coordinating the strategic program and project management activities of the Center. S/he develops and
manages strategic NASA programs/projects and strengthens the Center's core competency in program and
project management of complex aerospace and spaceflight systems, including seeking new programmatic
partnerships. S/he identifies and develops potential projects and programs while seeking out new
aerospace/spaceflight project collaborations with other agencies and private industry. S/he maintains close
partnerships with other NASA centers, contractors, and customers; and represents Ames Research Center in
matters related to the effective accomplishment and completion of projects and programs.

The incumbent works in close collaboration and partnership with the Director of Engineering and the
Director for Partnerships to develop new mission concepts and opportunities. S/he also participates in
identifying opportunities, developing proposals and new concepts, integration of appropriate procedures and
sustaining an environment for successful performance of projects and programs. The Director participates in
the development of new low cost, collaborative and innovative programs at the Center and fosters close
partnerships with internal and external Agency personnel to pioneer the application and transfer of
program/project management policies and processes to improve the productivity and quality of the work
products used to carry out spaceflight missions. S/he leads the integration of strategic center programs and
projects into a unified and cost-effective program management environment. S/he implements creative
solutions to manage, analyze, and present scientific, engineering, institutional, and programmatic
information while applying state of the art project management practices in the development of programs
and projects.

The incumbent pioneers innovative solutions to meet advanced program and project management
requirements, serving as principal advisor and consultant to senior management officials at Ames Research
Center, NASA HQ, other centers, and other government agencies in all matters concerning program and
project management. The Director supports Center program and project success to the maximum extent
possible while seeking out new opportunities, collaborations, and innovative activities.

Educational Qualifications
Education from an accredited college or university, in an appropriate field of engineering or the physical
sciences, at least at the baccalaureate level.
