CCNA 200-301 Basic Network Lab Setup

The assignment involves designing and configuring a basic network with one router, one switch, and five endpoint devices, focusing on device configuration, secure access, DHCP setup, and network security. Key tasks include setting hostnames, configuring access security, enabling SSH, setting up DHCP, and implementing DHCP snooping. Testing requirements include verifying gateway accessibility, SSH connectivity, and ensuring all endpoints receive IP addresses from the DHCP server.

1st Assignment of the Week (LAB Summary)

Objective
Design and configure a basic network using one router, one switch, and five endpoint devices.
This lab focuses on essential device configuration, secure access, DHCP setup, and basic
network security.

Tasks to Complete

1. Network Topology:

• Connect a single router to a single switch.

• Attach five endpoint devices to the switch.

2. Device Identification:

• Set the hostname of the router as R1.

• Set the hostname of the switch as Sw1.

3. Access Security:

• Configure console access and set a privileged mode password on both the
router and the switch for secure local access.
• Ensure that authentication is done using the local username and
password database.

4. Remote Access via SSH:

• Enable SSH access on the router for remote management.

• Use local username and password authentication for SSH login.

5. DHCP Configuration:

• Set up the router to act as a DHCP server to assign dynamic IP addresses

to the connected endpoints.
• Use the last digit of your phone number as the third octet of the subnet.
(Example: If your phone number ends with 4, use subnet [Link]/24)
• Exclude the first 100 IP addresses from the DHCP pool to prevent them
from being assigned dynamically.

6. Gateway Setup:

• Configure a default gateway on the router for the subnet.

• Verify gateway connectivity from the endpoint devices.

7. DHCP Security:

Enable DHCP Snooping on the switch to prevent unauthorized DHCP responses

and improve network security.

Testing Requirements

• Verify gateway accessibility: From any endpoint device, ensure you can successfully ping
the default gateway.
• Verify SSH connectivity: From an endpoint, test SSH access to the router using the
configured shared password.
• Connectivity Check: Confirm all endpoints receive IP addresses from the DHCP server
and can communicate with each other.

Documentation

• List all the configuration commands you used in the lab.

• Save your configurations on all devices to avoid loss of work.

Submission & Evaluation

You must complete and test this lab before Monday’s class. Be prepared to demonstrate all
required tasks and testing steps. Your command list and testing results will be part of the
evaluation.
