Description of the Program Immersive and practical, AB Film is designed to produce dynamic and versatile
graduates with first-hand experience in the production of cinema and film
media. Graduates of AB Film will be exposed to every facet of the industry
but, by their third year, will specialize in their chosen field; be it scriptwriting,
cinematography, production management, postproduction, and documentary
& non-fiction filmmaking.
The program utilizes various storytelling techniques from all over the world
but with an emphasis in leading the students to telling Filipino stories to a global
audience. Film is constantly evolving and the program honors tradition while
encouraging innovation and fresh ideas.
To publics and external partners, the program is branded and recognized
by the name BenildeFilm.
Expected Program Learning Upon completion of the BACHELOR OF ARTS IN FILM, students are expected to:

• PO1. Create compelling stories using different narrative styles and devices
to relate a series of events, for an audience, through a cinematic medium.

• PO2. Discuss milieu, style, and form in global and Filipino cinema,
through exploration, criticism, and analysis, to contribute to the discourse
of Filmmaking as cultural text. (Cinematic Cognizance)
• PO3. Effectively and efficiently manage on one’s own, and in collaboration
with others, the various development and production tasks geared towards
the realization of a common production goal. (Management, Leadership,
and Teamwork)
• PO4. Leverage on a variety of equipment, tools, and techniques
to effectively and creatively execute the technical and aesthetic
requirements of a cinematic project. (Technical Proficiency)
• PO5. Channel one’s imagination or original ideas in the creation of a whole
or component of a cinematic work to develop projects that are innovative,
insightful, and inspired. (Creativity)
• PO6. Wield cinema’s innate socio-political power as vehicle for the promotion
of equality, empowerment, and social good through films that explore,
investigate, challenge, and reflect on the human condition.

Admission Requirements All students must pass the Benildean Entrance Exam (BEE). The information
regarding application, admission timetable, and application results may be
viewed at Benilde Admissions Center. Downloadable forms and school
brochures are available from this site.
Applicants applying to any degree or non-degree program offered by
DLS-CSB are expected to provide a complete medical disclosure of past
or present conditions that may have an effect on student learning
and their intention to be a member of the Benildean community.

Curriculum and Program The AB Film Program is designed to provide an industry-relevant learning
Structure experience to students through a combination of creative, technical,
and theoretical subjects.
The first years are intended to build a foundation in art, design, and general
knowledge. Courses ranging from history, to literature, to social sciences,
and creative studio experiences provide opportunities for building
a more holistic and empathetic world view.
The Formation Years become the primary training platform upon which
to build an acumen and mastery in filmmaking and cinema. Core courses that
cut across the disciplines of filmmaking are then focused by a student’s choice
of one of five specializations: Cinematography, Screenwriting, Postproduction,
Documentaries and Non-Fiction, or Production and Management. This is further
balanced by a selection of electives in different fields in film and media.
The final years are geared towards developing and honing a high level
of technical and creative mastery. Mastery courses take into consideration
the range of individual students’ skills and talents, and channels these
into major projects and activities intended for public exhibition.

Teaching and Learning DLS-CSB espouses and promotes learner-centered parameters. A balance
Strategy, Assessment of theory and practice is achieved through lecture courses combined with
laboratory courses/sessions and application sites during the internship course
and the portfolio and thesis course.
Various assessment strategies are used such as class discussion, written and
oral examinations, return demonstration, journal submission, reflective essay,
assignment, seatwork, case study analysis, portfolio submission, final project
and individual/group report.
