Abstract: This paper aims at teaching hortatory exposition text using jigsaw technique. This

study is limited to the English conversation club members of private university. Because of the

consideration are fund and limited time, this research is limited to know how the implementation

and response Jigsaw Technique can increase the English Conversation Club members in

reading.

INTRODUCTION

There are 4 skills in English speaking, listening, reading and writing. Among those

4 skills, reading considered as the difficult skill.

Jigsaw technique is the best technique for improving students’ speaking skills. according

to, The University of Queensland (2019) the jigsaw technique made for cooperative

learning in small groups. Students have the opportunity to share their knowledges to other

students in particular subject. According to Slavin jigsaw technique refers to instructional

methods in which students work together in a small groups to help each other learn.
( Slavin,1991) This technique requires students to understand the material deeper level

and engage the discussion. This research focused on what kinds of technique that can be

implemented and what responses the students gave from the technique that was

implemented by the teacher.

METHODS
This is a qualitative research involving 10 students. Teaching and learning documentation used
to get the data to analyzed the jigsaw technique implementation.
