D. Establishing a
purpose for the Our lesson for today is Engine Cooling System Lubricating oil
Lesson cools the moving parts of the engine and transfers the hot
oil into the cooler oil in the oil pan. The oil creates a seal
between the cylinder walls and the piston rings. It also
reduces the exhaust gas blowby.
Learning Objectives: Learners will read the

2. Appreciate the significance of engine cooling system.
3. Apply the basic parts of cooling system learned in engine.
Before we are going to have our formal discussion with regards for
today’s lesson. I am going to give you an activity which will help you
understand the topic that we are going to have today.

What do you see?
Why does engine never overheat?
So today we will learn what the purpose of engine cooling system
is.
F. Developing
mastery (Leads to So we can start our lesson the cooling system serves three
Formative important functions. First, it removes excess heat from the engine;
Assessment 3) second, it maintains the engine operating temperature where it Let learners read
works most efficiently; and finally, it brings the engine up to the right
EXPLAIN operating temperature as quickly as possible
In water cooled systems a liquid, usually water, is pumped through
pipes. The liquid takes the heat from the components and Let learners read
dissipates it in a radiator. It operates on the same principal as the
engine cooling system in a car where coolant is pumped through
the engine and to the radiator.
Activity 2
IDENTIFIYING ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM PARTS
Radiator: The radiator is a heat exchanger that helps dissipate
heat from the engine coolant. It consists of a network of tubes and
fins that allow air to flow through and carry away heat.
Coolant: Also known as antifreeze, coolant is a mixture of water Let learners read
and ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. It circulates through the
engine to absorb heat and then transfers it to the radiator for
dissipation.
Water Pump: The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant
through the engine and radiator. It is usually belt-driven and
ensures a constant flow of coolant to maintain proper engine
temperature.
Let learners read
Thermostat: The thermostat is a valve that regulates the flow of
coolant between the engine and the radiator. It remains closed
when the engine is cold to allow it to warm up quickly and opens
when the engine reaches operating temperature to allow coolant
flow.
Hoses: Hoses connect various components of the cooling system,
such as the radiator, water pump, and engine. They transport
coolant between these components.
Let learners read
Cooling Fans: Cooling fans are typically mounted on the radiator
and are either electrically or mechanically driven. They help
improve airflow through the radiator, especially at low speeds or
when the vehicle is stationary.
Expansion Tank: Also known as a coolant reservoir, the
expansion tank provides a space for coolant expansion and
contraction as the engine temperature fluctuates. It also serves as Let learners read
a convenient location for checking and topping up coolant levels.
Thermal Switch/Sensor: This component monitors the engine
temperature and activates the cooling fans when needed to
maintain optimal operating temperature.
Radiator Cap: The radiator cap seals the radiator and maintains
the system pressure, which raises the boiling point of the coolant. It
also allows excess coolant to flow into the expansion tank and Let learners read
prevents air from entering the cooling system.
Heater Core: The heater core is a small radiator-like unit located
inside the vehicle's cabin. It uses hot coolant from the engine to
provide heat for the interior when the heater is turned on.

applications of
concepts and skills Today, we are going to discussed about an “engine cooling
in daily living system”. But before we are going to discussed, we will have an
activity first. Posted on the board is a” word search puzzle”. What
you are going to do is to find words list on the right. The words may
appear horizontally, vertically, diagonally (backward/upward) Learners’ answers may
vary
When you find the words, circle it on the puzzle, then cross it off on
the list. I will call five students to do the job or activity.
Upon completion of the word search puzzle, participants will be call
to say something or explain the words they have encircled, based
on what they understand.
