He slams into a waiter who spills the glass all over the Duke.
SATINE: Is the duke here, Harold?
ZIDLER: has your father ever disappointed you!?
SATINE: where is it?
ZIDLER: that's what Toulouse hands the handkerchief to.
TOLOUSE: (while taking the handkerchief from Cris's jacket) sorry
Can you lend it to me, Cristian?
Are you sure?
Tolouse cleans the Duke with the handkerchief and argues with him.
ZIDLER: let me see… ohhh yes, it’s him, little onion.

work
SATINE: I can't believe it. I'm in love with a young man.
talented, beautiful and he is also a duke
CRIS: duke?
SATINE: not that the title is important, it is clear.
CRIS: I am not a duke.
SATINE: aren't you a duke?
CRIS: I am a writer (the music interrupts like a distortion)
SATINE: a writer?
CRIS: yes, a writer.
SATINE: no!
CRIS:ma Toulouse….
SATINE: Toulouse... oh no.. you won't be another talented one,
fascinating, tragically poor bohemians from Toulouse?!
CRIS: well, let's say yes
SATINE: oh, no I'm going to kill him, I'm going to kill him
TOULOUSE: (from the roof) perhaps there is a tiny obstacle
SATINE: Where is the duke (opens the door) oh, the duke
CRIS: the duke
SATINE: hide! In the back!
Enter Zidler
ZIDLER: My dear, you are presentable for the duke... where were you?
SATINE: I was waiting...
ZIDLER: Dearest duke, allow me to introduce mademoiselle
Satine!
SATINE: Sir! It's kind of you to take the time to...
Come to visit me. (Cris hides first behind her, then
behind the bar
DUCA: The pleasure, I fear, will be entirely mine, my dear.
ZIDLER: I leave you to get to know each other better (exits)
A kiss on the hand can be very refined...
SATINE: Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
DUCA: well, after your commendable artistic efforts this evening
You will certainly need to refresh yourselves, my dear.
(approaches the bar)
SATINE: No! Do you... do you think the view is beautiful?
DUCA: enchanting.
SATINE: oh, I feel like dancing (she moves with some movements between the
sensual and the comic
DUCA: (embarrassed) I would like a glass of champagne.
SATINE: no!.. it's really a bit strange..
DUCA: what?
what I feel...inside (follows the mimed suggestions of
Cris)... I'm not someone who can hide (throws herself at his feet)... I don't have
a lot of money, but if I had it, I would buy a big house for us

She begins to sing your song (to see if a cappella live or

DUCA: it is beautiful.
SATINE: It's a spectacular show. Now that you're here, I have

that the world has given me you (Cris is about to leave but cannot because
outside the tent is the Duke's guard.
DUCA: what is the meaning my dear?
SATINE: (desperate) oh no, Duke, don't play with my feelings.
You must know the effect you have on women... let's do it
Love (takes the duke and throws him on the bed) you want to do
Isn't love real?
DUCA: Love?
He kisses her and signals Cris to run away.
SATINE: I knew you wanted it! Oh duke (Cris stays and watches her
jealous) you are right. We should wait until the evening of the
first
WAIT? WAIT?
SATINE: Your charisma scares me. You must go.
I just arrived.
SATINE: Well, if we will see each other every day at rehearsals, I mean us
we must wait, we must wait until the evening of the first.
Go away.
He kicks the Duke out the door.
SATINE: Do you have any idea what would have happened if it had happened to you?
discovered?
She faints
CRIS:oh my God. Satine?
Cris struggles to drag Satine to bed. The Duke enters.
DUCA: I left my hat.....an affair?
SATINE: (as she recovers) oh duke
DUCA: What I feel inside is really a bit strange!
SATINE: beautiful words, duke. Now let me introduce you to the author.
DUCA: the author?
SATINE: yes... we were... we were trying
DUCA: and you would have me believe that so scantily dressed in the arms of
another man, in the middle of the night, inside an elephant,
were you trying?
Enter Toulouse and the rest of the gang
TOLOUSE: how is this test going? Let's start over.
SATINE: while I was talking to you earlier, you kind of...
I was inspired, yes I understood how much work was left to do for tomorrow,
So I called everyone for a special rehearsal.
DUCA: Are you trying to find out where Zidler is?
I didn't want to disturb him.
Zidler rushes in
ZIDLER: oh dear duke, I am terribly sorry...
SATINE: Harold! You came, anyway the duke knows all about the proof.
extraordinary.
ZIDLER: extraordinary test?
SATINE: to introduce the artistic ideas of the Duke. It is so
enthusiast of the young author who is eager to invest.
ZIDLER: to invest? to invest, oh yes certainly to invest, forgive me if
I tried to keep you hidden...
TOULOUSE: christian!
ZIDLER: our Cristian
DUCA: I know more things about you, Zidler
ZIDLER: my dear Duke, why don't we go to my office then?
fill out some paperwork
DUCA: what is the story?
ZIDLER: The story?!
DUCA: if I have to invest, I need to know the history.
ZIDLER: oh... yes... well... the story is about... Toulouse?
TOLOUSE: eh eh eh, well the story goes.....yes.....well...it talks about
CRIS: speaks of love
DUCA: (disgusted) love?
CRIS: of that love that overcomes every obstacle.
TOLOUSE: it takes place in Switzerland.
DUCA: in Switzerland?
ZIDLER: the exotic Switzerland

abduction, a marvel, will be one...
SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR
During the song, spoken interventions
