Understanding the Scientific Method

The document discusses the scientific method as a systematic approach to understanding and solving problems in the universe. It defines key terms such as method, science, and scientific method, and distinguishes between primary and critical knowledge. Additionally, it outlines two models of the scientific method—experimental and deductive theoretical—and details the steps involved, including observation, hypothesis formulation, and experimentation.

Scientific method

1) Introduction:

Man has questioned reality, both to solve his problems and

satisfy their needs this arises in the face of the vastness of phenomena that occur
they manifest in the universe so that man has ventured into the process of the
research to answer your questions through systematized methods like
the scientific method.

2) Definitions:

To correctly understand the scientific method, we must explain each of the

terms.

Method: According to the most widely disseminated meanings, it refers to the notion of a path.
to achieve certain objectives. Therefore, it implicitly carries the practical-operational notion in
its dynamics. This is the field of science, but in philosophy as noted by Nuñez.
Tenorio (1999) is considered the rational way to connect with the truth.
through the staging of dimensions that are no longer just practical but also theoretical

Science:

Scientific method: It is the intellectual or material procedure that a subject uses to

understand, analyze, transform or build a knowledge object.

At the moment of finding the subject and the object, a simple relationship is established between them.
both, that is to say, it does not abstract and analyze what has been found, it is just a copy of the perception
subjective of the object, in this case, primary knowledge is produced.

Instead, when the subject-object relationship can be explained, described, or interpreted

we are facing a critical lack of knowledge in science.

Primary knowledge ≠ critical knowledge of science

3) The two models of the scientific method: Theoretical and experimental

3.1) Experimental or inductive method:
It is the most used and the one that develops in the most complex way on this topic.

For example: as children we learn this way: by making an observation our sensors
they send the impulses originating to the cerebral cortex.

3.2) Deductive theoretical method:

The theoretical model is theoretical in its formulation but completely experimental in its validation.

Examples:
Einstein used this method to develop his theory of relativity, starting from a theory.
and took for granted a series of axioms, by applying these axioms one arrived at laws
that at first it was difficult to accept but then it became valid through the
experimentation.

4) Steps of the scientific method:

4.1) Observation: Observing is different from looking; observing is to appreciate the qualities of
each object consists of the collection of facts it is important to observe correctly
without being carried away by subjectivity.

4.2) Hypothesis: Possible explanation of the results

4.2) Experimentation: Verification or confirmation of the hypothesis.

Theory: a series of concepts that provide a solution to a specific problem.
