Managed by South African National Parks (SANParks).
Was created to protect the region’s elephants from extinction — ivory hunting almost wiped them out in the 1800s & 1900s.
In 1931, only 11 elephants remained when the park was proclaimed.
A special elephant-proof fence was built in 1954.

Home to over 450 elephants — one of the largest elephant populations in Africa.
