GENERAL INSTRUCTION

This is the midterm assignment for Systemic Functional Linguistics and Functional Grammar

Due: One week after dispatch and on the scheduled time slot for the class. Printed paper must be
submitted at my desk.

Every individual student is assigned with an individual text following the list attached to the
assignment booklet. The essay questions are the same:

(1) What are the social and the communicative functions of the text? Use your analyses to
justify your answers.

(2) What type of text is it? What is the generic structure of the text. Use your analyses to
justify your answers.

(3) What types of processes are dominant in the texts and how do they contribute to the
generic structure of the text and the meanings therein? Use your analyses to justify your
answers.

Elaborate your answer by referring to your analyses of the text.
