Due to the length of this course the Reproductive System, covered in Chapter 28 of your book, needs to
be studied independently outside of the classroom. As well, the final term test contains 12 questions
from chapter 28. As such, a thorough independent study of chapter 28 needs to be undertaken. The
purpose of this assignment is to create an opportunity for you to engage the material in chapter 28 while
at the same time research an aspect of reproductive health that is interesting to you.

Steps:

The first step in the assignment is to complete the Reproductive Assignment Questions document by
reading the chapter and answering the questions. This will be completed and attached to the end of your
assignment after your bibliography (Like an appendix). This can be single spaced and does not have a
word limit. It simply needs to be complete

After completing the first step, the Second step is to select a topic from the list of topics below and find
credible sources to investigate this topic in order to write a report on this aspect of reproductive health.
Please make sure you record all relevant identifying information from the source in order to properly
reference the document for this assignment. We will use APA style citation but you do not need to be an
expert here.

I would like you to cite when you paraphrase and/or quote from a source and I would like you to provide
a bibliography (Remember that any ideas you generate while completing a written assignment were
likely inspired by a particular source). I will give you marks for citation not for your skill with citation.

I don’t mind people using an internet source to start your search but please limit the use of internet
sources unless they have a high degree of credibility. For example, Wikipedia is a good place to start but
is generally frowned upon in most academic circles. A very good source of information can be found on
the Academic Databases on the Centennial College Library webpage. Typically, the academic databases
contain academic journals and most of those journals are peer-reviewed making them extremely
credible. As well, the library likely contains a variety of books, like pathology books, which are excellent
sources for research. I request that you find no less than 3 credible sources for this report. Note: There
are a lot of opinion pieces on the internet and pseudo-advertisement cites that look credible but lack
credibility.

Essay writing tips: Don’t hand in the first thing you write. I typically write double or triple the word limit
on my first draft of the essay. I leave it for a day and go back and look for how I can say the same thing
using less words. Then I send it to a friend, who I feel is a good writer, and ask them to read the essay
and give me some criticism and help to suggest ways to make the essay smaller or more clear (Also have
them look at grammar and punctuation). My final draft, which becomes my essay, comes out of that
process. I take their suggestions about my writing and do my own final edit of the essay and then begin
formatting (Alignment, font, headings etc).
Components of the assignment

Please make sure your assignment has a cover page, introduction, a main body, and a conclusion. Also
make sure you include a bibliography and attach your Reproductive Assignment Questions at the end of
your document, or added to the dropbox as a separate document.

Please explain your reproductive topic in detail and relate that topic to some component(s) of
physiology. E.g. A Vasectomy is the sterilization of a male by surgically cutting the vas deference in order
to prevent sperm from entering ejaculate. This topic would require some explanation of the male
reproductive system in order to understand the role of the vas deference in male reproduction. This
would also require an explanation of how the surgery is performed as well as the outcomes and
potential side-effects of such a procedure. Your introduction should outline what you intend to explain or
prove by writing this essay, and your conclusion should wrap up your essay findings in a single paragraph.

research please let me know as I am happy to expand the scope of the topics. To avoid too many essays
on the same topic, please email me your chosen topic for approval. No more than 2 students will be
allowed to research each of the topics listed.

Formatting of the assignment

This assignment needs to be formatted with a cover page, introduction, main body, conclusion, a
reference page as well as the completed reproductive assignment questions at the end of the
assignment. The cover page should contain the assignment name, the topic of your specific assignment,
your full name and student number, the course code and name, the program you are enrolled in and the
faculty member you are submitting the assignment to as well as the date the assignment is due. Your
introduction should be brief and explain the specific focus of your assignment. The main body must
include a description of the topic you have selected and relate that information to a component of
reproductive physiology. Your conclusion should summarize your findings. Note: Please ensure that your
essay is double spaced and has appropriate headings throughout. Please indent the first word of each
new paragraph by placing your cursor beside the first word of the paragraph and hitting the “Tab” key. A
11 or 12 font of Calibri, Times New Roman or Arial is perfectly acceptable.

Page limit of the assignment

The introduction, main body and conclusion should be at least 500 words and not exceed 1000 words,
not including citations (roughly 3 pages double spaced).

References used in the assignment

I prefer APA or Turabian citation, however, I do not have a clear understanding of the type of citation you
typically use in your English courses here at the school. It’s important to me that you not only list the
sources you use to prepare this essay, but also cite any words or ideas that are not your own, so that I
can understand the information provided by turn-it-in. Please make sure you have a
reference/bibliography section at the end of your essay in which sources describe the author’s name, the
date of the publication if you can find it, the title of the document or the name of the textbook and other
relevant information like where it comes from. Also, adding a url for any web sources makes it easy to
locate the sources you use. If you use a quotation in your main body just give the first name (s) of the
author, the date of publication and the page number e.g. (Brookfield, 1995, p31). If you paraphrase
perhaps just the name and date e.g (Johnson, Morgan, Wilson & Rogers, 2012). The second time you
paraphrase or quote a source you can say et al. like this (Johnson et al., 2012).

Paraphrasing is about taking several paragraphs or several pages of information and reducing it down to
its essential information. Please do not copy directly from a source and paste it into your essay. Your goal
is to read a source and then explain what you understand in the essay. You still need to cite where you
got your inspiration but don’t just copy and paste. If you do that you are quoting which means you have
to put “brackets” around that text and then cite adding the exact page number. Don’t use quotations
unless there is no other way to explain something. Quotes should always be used sparingly or not at all.
It’s considered academically lazy to construct an essay of a series of quotes with no analysis of
information on your part.

Please make sure you do a reference or bibliography page at the end of your essay. This has its own page
and should outline your references accurately. I will not be overly critical of this but make sure at least
the basic elements are there. Take a look below to see some examples. Your bibliography does not have
to be perfect but it must be there even if you only use three sources.
