Scene 8:
(setting café) Hania: Victim’s sis.
Nada: cleared suspect
(Sam’s phones rings and she answers)
Sam: Hello?
Jessica: Samantha Larkin?
Sam: who is this?
Jessica: I know who killed you sister
Sam: what? Is this some kind of sick joke?
Jessica: I got evidence…
Sam: Piss off
Jessica: tell me were you are and I’ll come and show you
Sam: I swear if this is a prank, I’m calling the police
Jessica: sure…
Sam: I’m at the coffee shop at main street
Jessica: okay. Will be there in five minutes, I’m close.
(Jessica hangs up)
(curtains close and open after a moment)
(Jessica enters the stage and sits across Sam)
Jessica: Samantha…
Sam: it’s just Sam
Jessica: okay just Sam
Sam: Quit it!
Jessica: okay, okay just trying to defuse the tension
(Sam just glares)
(Jessica takes out a bag where there’s a necklace inside and hands it
to Sam)
Jessica: here…
Sam: Isn’t that officer Jones… no way!
Jessica: yes way, this necklace was at the scene but I got hold of it
before the police can take it as evidence
Sam: Are you insane?! You should hand that in
Jessica: I’m not handing it in, there’s no justice in their system
Sam: what on earth are you saying, of course there is
Jessica: do you seriously trust the police department, they’re just crap!
Sam: what makes you say that then?
Jessica: remember 4 years ago when they sent the so-called DT killer to
jail. That was my brother, he was in the interrogation room for 9 hours
straight, it was a false confession he was stressed and tired. It’s the only
evidence they have.
Sam: wait a minute… DT killer as in the duct tape killer the one who
killed 4 women.
Jessica: the very same one.
Sam: there must be some kind of mistake…
Jessica: there isn’t. the police wanted to get on with the case and seem
to make process because of the publics pressure.
Sam: but he confessed
Jessica: the detective that interrogated him was answering the
questions he asked him he kept hinting the answers to Billy.
Sam: this can’t be…
Jessica: I was with him the night the last girl died but I couldn’t prove it
and we couldn’t afford to get a proper lawyer, so he was assigned one
and told us it would be better if he pleaded guilty and then the jury
might decrease his years.
Sam: this is the police we’re talking about…
Jessica: Billy didn’t even get a fair trail. Come on Sam I thought you
were smart. This necklace fell when she stabbed your sister.
Sam: why are you showing me this? How did you even get this?
Jessica: you can just say I got someone on the inside… and as for why…
(Jessica looks around her)
Jessica: well I know how you feel… you can end her once and for all. I
know you have what it takes. The chief police isn’t even here and he’s
the only one who’s got a mind, he would have figured it out, but he’s
not here it’s up to us Sam…
Sam: I-
(Sam looks at the necklace)
Sam: one week.
Jessica: what?
Sam: one week, and then I’m taking it to my own hands
Jessica: fine by me then.
(curtains close)
