Electromagnetic Fields of HVDC Line Egypt-KSA

This conference paper presents the computation of electromagnetic fields for a proposed high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line connecting Egypt and Saudi Arabia, with a stressed voltage of ±500 kV and a length of approximately 1320 km. The study utilizes charge simulation and current simulation methods to analyze electric and magnetic fields at ground level, considering factors such as pole height and outages. The findings indicate that higher pole heights reduce maximum field values and the required right of way for safety.

of HVDC are listed as follows (1-6): shown in Fig. 1 (7).
1- The HVDC power flow is fully controllable, fast Fig. 1. Schematic diagram for the proposed HVDC line interconnecting

2- High voltage DC link is asynchronous and can
adapt to any rated voltage or frequency at reception.
The HVDC link can be used to help alternating

the link (e.g. power system damping).
3- HVDC links do not increase the systems short
