carefully read and fully understood the provisions contained in the said Regulations.

2. I have read clause 3 of the Regulations and am aware of what constitutes ragging.

3. I have also read clause 7 and clause 9.1 of the Regulations and am fully aware of the penal and administrative
action that is liable to be taken against me in case I am found guilty of or abetting ragging, actively or
passively, or being part of a conspiracy to promote ragging.

4. I hereby solemnly aver and undertake that a) I will not indulge in any behaviour or act that may be constituted
as ragging. b) I will not participate in or abet or propagate through any act of commission or

Anti-ragging Policy
ANNEXURE I
As per the directives issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the University Grants
Commission, ragging is a cognizable and punishable offence and is banned in or out of the University
premises. The University shall take action in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the
Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, against those found guilty of ragging and/or
abetting ragging, actively or passively, or being part of a conspiracy to promote ragging.
GITAM has a strict Anti-Ragging Policy and students should apprise themselves of the same. They
should be aware of the consequences and penalties of ragging and refrain from indulging in any such
act.
The University gives paramount importance to the safety and security of every student and follows a zero
tolerance policy against Ragging. Any student found indulging in ragging or any related activity will be
dealt with strictly by appropriate disciplinary action as prescribed under Clause 9 (details mentioned
below)of the Anti-Ragging Regulation of UGC.
1. Ragging will include but not limited to actions such as
a. Display of noisy, disorderly conduct, or performing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or
psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear, shame or embarrassment to a student in any academic
institution.

b. This includes teasing, abusing, playing practical jokes, or causing hurt to students asking the student to do
any act or perform something which a student will not in the ordinary course be willing to do. For more
details, please refer to Clause 3(details mentioned below) of the Anti Ragging Regulation of UGC.

c. UGC Regulations on Curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions include any act of
physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (Fresher or
otherwise) on the ground of color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual
orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or
economic background.

2. All the registered students are required to file online Anti-ragging Undertakings (Student &Parent) every
academic year by visiting the following link : [Link] and fill up
online anti-ragging undertakings by students and parents/guardians. After successful submission of details, the
student will receive the Student’s and Parent’s Anti Ragging Undertakings on his/her registered email. Please
print both the undertakings, sign them yourself, and by your parents/guardians, and submit both the signed
undertakings before making the fee payment every year in the beginning of the academic year, during your
stay in GITAM.

3. It shall be the responsibility of the parents/guardians of freshers to promptly bring any instance of ragging to
the notice of the authorities of the University.

Clause-9 : Administrative action in the event of ragging

The institution shall punish a student found guilty of ragging after following the procedure and in the
manner prescribed hereinunder:
1. The Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution shall take an appropriate decision, in regard to punishment or
otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of ragging and nature and gravity of the incident of ragging

established in the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad.

2. The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-
Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely;
i. Suspension from attending classes and having academic privileges.

ii. Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.

iii. Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation processes.

iv. Withholding results.

v. Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament,
youth festival, etc.

vi. Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.

vii. Cancellation of admission

viii. Rustication from the institution for a period ranging from one to four semesters.

ix. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a
specified period.

Provided that whether the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are not identified, the
institution shall resort to collective punishment.
3. An appeal against the order of punishment by the Anti-Ragging Committee shall lie,
i. In case of an order of an institution, affiliated to or constituent part, of a University, to the Vice-Chancellor
of the University.

ii. In case of an order of University, to its Chancellor

iii. In case of an institution of national importance created by an Act of Parliament, to the Chairman or
Chancellor of the institution, as the case may be.

Clause-3 : What constitutes Ragging

Ragging constitutes one or any of the following acts:
1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect
of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.

2. Indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause
annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or
any other student;

3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the
effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the
physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.

4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other
student or a fresher;

5. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an
individual or a group of students. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a
fresher or any other student by students;

6. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing
obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person; Any act or abuse
by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious
or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;

Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student. with or without an
intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority, or superiority by a student over any fresher
or any other student.

Clause-7 : Action to be taken by the Head of the institution

On receipt of the recommendation of the Anti Ragging Squad or on receipt of any information concerning
any reported incident of ragging, the Head of Institution shall immediately determine if a case under the
penal laws is made and if so, either on his own or through a member of the AntiRagging Committee
authorized by him in this behalf, proceed to file a First Information Report (FIR), within twenty-four
hours of receipt of such information or recommendation, with the police and local authorities, under the
appropriate penal provisions relating to one or more of the following, namely:
1. Abetment to ragging

2. Criminal conspiracy to rag

3. Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging

4. Public nuisance created during ragging

5. Violation of decency and morals through ragging

6. Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt

7. Wrongful restraint; viii Wrongful confinement

8. Use of criminal force

9. Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences

10. Extortion; xii Criminal trespass

11. Offences against the property

12. Criminal intimidation

13. Attempts to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences against the victim(s)

14. Threat to commit any or all of the above-mentioned offences against the victim(s)

15. Physical or psychological humiliation

16. All other offences following from the definition of "Ragging"

Provided that the Head of the institution shall forthwith report the occurrence of the incident of ragging to
the District Level Anti-Ragging Committee and the Nodal officer of the affiliating University if the
institution is an affiliated institution. Provided further that the institution shall also continue with its own
inquiry initiated under clause 9 of these Regulations and other measures without waiting for action on the
part of the police/local authorities and such remedial action shall be initiated and completed immediately
and in no case later than a period of seven days of the reported occurrence of the incident of ragging.
ANNEXURE 2: Prevention of sexual harassment (for students)
“Sexual harassment” means
1. An unwanted conduct with sexual undertones if it occurs or which is persistent and which demeans,
humiliates, or creates a hostile and intimidating environment or is calculated to induce submission by actual or
threatened adverse consequences and includes any one or more or all of the following unwelcome acts or
behaviour (whether directly or by implication), namely;

a. Any unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature;

b. Demand or request for sexual favours;

c. Making sexually coloured remarks;

d. Physical contacts and advances; or

e. Showing pornography.

2. Any one (or more than one, or all) of the following circumstances, if it occurs or is present in relation or
connected with any behaviour that has explicit or implicit sexual undertones –
a. Implied or explicit promise of preferential treatment as quid pro quo for sexual favours;

b. Implied or explicit threat of detrimental treatment in the conduct of work

c. Implied or explicit threat about the present or future status of the person concerned;

d. Creating an intimidating offensive or hostile learning environment;

e. Malicious intent, defined as a false allegation with the purpose of defaming or causing harm;

f. Humiliating treatment likely to affect the health, safety, dignity or physical integrity of the person
concerned.

3. GITAM has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment

a. Any student who experiences any form of sexual harassment can raise a grievance with
faculty/HOD/Principal or directly with Director-Student Life

b. On receiving a grievance, students will be counselled about how they can proceed ahead. Their identity will
be kept completely confidential.

4. Please do not indulge in inappropriate behaviour:

a. Please do not assume anything about how members of the opposite sex will behave. Always seek permission
first.

b. Teasing, catcalling, whistling is unacceptable behaviour

c. Always be respectful. When you have a doubt about whether a certain behaviour is appropriate, DO NOT
have the approach of doing first and ‘seeing what happens later.

d. Talking with permission is good. Stalking online or offline is not good. Trolling online is not good

5. For those who are victims of inappropriate behaviour:

a. Do not be afraid. If someone - student, staff, faculty, even a visitor on campus, makes you feel
uncomfortable on campus, please be in the habit of having your phone handy and seek help from security,
other faculty, or us promptly.

b. If you face such issues online, please learn and know how to take screenshots on your phone or on your
laptop and to make a note of the details like time, date etc. It will make it easier for authorities to resolve
the issue.

6. Any student/staff indulging in behaviour/actions which may be described as ‘sexual harassment’ will be liable
for strict legal and punitive action following due procedure as laid out by University authorities from time to
time.
