Solutions for Practice Exercise Questions
Solution 1:
Let, first number = x.
Then other number = 24-x
7x +5(24-x)=146
2x=146-120
x =13
Ans:- (b) 13
Solution 2:
If the number is xy, then y = 4x and 10x+y +27 =10y +x
Solving these equations, we get, x=1,y=4
Thus 14 is the required number. Its square is 196
Ans:- (b) 196
Solution 3:
= 92 +112
= 202
Ans:- (c) 9
Solution 4:
Let , salman has Rs.x then sohali has 𝑥 2 .
x + 𝑥 2 = 110 = 𝑥 2 + x -110 =0
𝑥 2 +11 x-10x -110 =0
x(x+11)-10(x+11)=0
x =10, x = -11
Rupee is positive so, x =10
Sohali has 𝑥 2 =102 =100. Ans:- (d) 100

Solution 5:
Let ,the digits are x and y.
10x + y + 9 = 10y +x
9x-9y = -9 = x-y = -1 -------------- (1)
By other condition, x+y =3----------(2)
Solving 1 and 2 x=1, y=2
Number = 10x+y = 10 × 1+2 =12
Ans:- (b) 12
Solution 6:
By the given condition, let the other number is x
6+x =5(6-x)
6+x =30-5x
6x= 24=x=4 or x=9
Ans:- (b) 9
Solution 7:
1
= x-9=+10 × 𝑥
10
= x-9 = 𝑥
2
=𝑥 -9x – 10 =0
(x-10)(x+1) =0
x=10,-1
Number is positive i.e 10
Ans:- (b) 10
Solution 8:
𝑥+2 3
= =5
20−𝑥+2
=5x + 10
=66-3x
= x-7,

7
Hence the fraction is 13
𝟕
Ans:- (c)
𝟏𝟑
Solution 9:
𝑥 𝑥+1
If 𝑦 be the fraction then 𝑦
1 𝑥 1
= 2 and𝑦+1 = 3
and x = 3 and y = 8
=x–y
=5
Ans:- (a) 5
Solution 10:
Let the other number be x. there can be 2 possibilities
= x+10
= 2(x-10)
x =30
Ans:- (c) 30
