Device Description
Door Sensor Device that can detect whether the door open or shut.
Electric Lock Electrically operated device that can lock or unlock a door depending
on whether electricity is supplied to the device or not.
Exit Push Button Push button switch, which when activated, will unlock the door by
energizing the electric lock.
You need to supply a 12VDC power source with at least 0.7A capacity, excluding the power
consumption of the electric locking device. In most installations, a charger with sealed lead-
acid battery on float charge should be provided, so that the door can continue to work even
when there is power outage. The charger should maintain float charge voltage 13.8V.
There should also be a low-voltage cut off, so that the battery is disconnected from EL1335D
when voltage falls below 10V. This low voltage cut-off is particularly important if you are
using EM locks. When voltage falls below 10V, EL1335D will shut down, and will not read a
card presented, nor will respond to any command from PC. At the same time, the EM lock
will still be energized, because there is 10V of supply across it. Therefore, the door will be
held locked until battery drains out, or power supply returns.
2
EL1335D Access Control Panel Technical Manual
EL1335D also provides 4 sensor inputs and 2 auxiliary outputs. This sensor input may
function as alarm input or status input, depending how the auxiliary output is configured.
The auxiliary output 1 point can be programmed as a sensor alarm output, door open
alarm, General purpose output or Event Driven Output. The auxiliary output 2 can only be
programmed as General purpose output or Event Driven Output.
When configures as sensor alarm output, it will treat sensor input as a alarm point, which
can be armed or disarmed
When configured as a door open alarm output, it will be activated when the door protected
by EL1335D is forced open or left open.
When programmed as a General Purpose (GP) output, it can be switched on manually
or automatically by time zone.
When programmed as an Event driven output, it can be switched on by predefined event
or transaction code.
The EL1335D system uses cards to unlock a door. Each person eligible to enter the door is
issued with an ID card. The type of ID card used will depend on the type of readers that
EL1335D is equipped with. Elid offers different type of readers that fitted EL1335D.
When a person presents his card to the reader, the card number is read and compared with
the list of ‘valid’ numbers held inside the memory of EL1335D. If the number is found,
EL1335D will check to see whether this particular card user is allowed entry at the particular
day. If the answer is ‘yes’, and the number is correct, it will activate the electric lock to unlock
the door. If any of the above tests fail, the door will not be unlocked.
1.4 ID Cards
As stated in the previous section, encoded ID cards are used as ‘keys’ for opening doors.
Cards can be EM proximity, HID Proximity, MIifare smart cards, depending on the model
of reader you have purchased. However, card format used must conform to the following:
3
EL1335D Access Control Panel Technical Manual
When the EL1335D is operating normally, you will see the time (HH:MM) displayed at the
EK9S display. The first 2 digits indicate the hours and the next 2 digits the minutes. Time is
indicated in 24-hour format. For example, 4 pm is indicated as 16.00. A small dot located
between the hour and minutes digits will blink once every second. This condition indicates
that the equipment is ready to read a card.
Depending on how the EL1335D is programmed, entry is granted on the following conditions:-
Is the card properly read?
Is the card number in the list of valid cards stored in EL1335D memory?
Is the category correct? In other words, is the card allowed access at this particular
day of the week and this particular time?
Is the EL1335D set to ‘No-Entry’ mode, in this mode, none of the card can access.
Is the EL1335D set to Card + PIN mode? If so, it will check the 4-digit PIN entered
The EK9S display unit has a 4-digit display which will respond to the different situations
above with different displays as detailed below:-
E-rd : The card ID code cannot be read, which may be due to card damage or use of
(Error-Customer Code)
E-IC : The number is not found in the memory. (Error-Invalid Card)
E-CA : The number is found in the memory, but the category or time zone of the card is
such that it cannot enter the door at this particular time. (Error-Category) EL1335D
E-nE is set to “No Entry” mode. (Error-no Entry)
4
EL1335D Access Control Panel Technical Manual
If the card number is found in the memory, and the category is correct. In other words, the
card is allowed entry at this particular time. Then on e of the following will take place:-
If the EL1335D is programmed to “Card-only” mode, then the display will show “go”
and the door is unlocked.
If the EL1335D is programmed to “Card+PIN” mode, then the display will show “PIN”,
requesting the user to key in the 4-digit PIN code. As each number is keyed in, there
will be a “beep” sound and a”_” is displayed. If the code is correctly entered, the display
will show “-go-“ and the door is unlocked. If the code is wrong, the display will show
“E-IP”, Error-Invalid PIN Code, and the door will not open.
When a person wishes to exit, he should push the Exit Push Button. This will activate
the Electric Latch to unlock the door. However, an exit reader can be installed in lieu of
push button, in which case he should present his card at the exit reader.
Note that each time the Electric Latch is activated, it does so for a limited time period,
(factory setting is 5 seconds) after which the door is locked back. The user should open the
door during this period, otherwise the door will be locked again.
A powerful feature provided by EL1335D is the ability to grant or deny access depending on time.
This is done by setting “TIMERS” and “CATEGORY”. A timer has 2 sets of “start” and “end” times.
There are 24 timers in EL1335D. For example, you may set up the timers as follows:-
In the above example, Timer 3 is set to be activated between 08:30 and 12:30 for the first
period, and 13:30 to 17:10 for the second period. If this timer is assigned to, say, lock
output, then the door will be open during the 2 periods 08:30-12:30 and 13:30-17:30. The
door will be locked at other times.
5
EL1335D Access Control Panel Technical Manual
In real life, we often need different timers for different day of the week, and if a particular
date happens to be a holiday, we will need a different timer. This is handled by the
Category command. The Category command allows you to divide your staff into different
groups or categories, each with its own unique set of times to control when entry is granted.
An example of such a requirement for category is shown in the table below. Note that
the timers used are those referred earlier.
Timer For
It is up to you to program the start and end times for each timer. It is also up to up to you
to allocate any of the 24 timers for any day of the week and for each of the 8
programmable categories (categories 1 & 2 are pre-defined).

1.7 Logging of Activities
The EL1335D is able to log up to 1000 records of the latest activities (or transactions)
occurring at the door it is controlling. Each record is stored with date, time, card ID and
transaction code. The following is a typical sequence of records, where the first 4 numbers
are the date in day/month, the next 4 numbers are the time in hour/minute, the next 6 digits
are the card ID and the last digit is the transaction code.

CHAPTER 2
2. INSTALLATION
2.1 Introduction
In order to complete the installation, you will require the following additional parts
You will also need to provide a 12V charger of adequate capacity and associated Lead-
acid battery.
The EL1335D and the charger/battery unit should be installed in a secure area, in other
words, inside the room protected by the door security system. Position the EL1335D with
charger/battery as near to the door as possible. The charger shall be connected to the CN3
of EL1335D.
The EK9S keypad display should not more than 10 feet from the EL1335D and
connected to CN1, together with Entry Reader.
The Door Sensor (magnetic contact), the Exit Push Button and the Electric Door Lock are
connected to CN7. Note that the Electric Door Lock should be fitted with spark suppression
device, such as a diode (1N5402) or varistor. Most Electric Door Lock requires large amounts of
current to operate. Therefore, they should have separate wires going directly to the supply
terminals in the charger. Also ensure that the wires used are of adequate rating. If you are using
Fail-Secure type of lock, you should connect your lock between terminal 2 and 3 as shown on
the drawing. If you are using Fail-Safe type of lock, you should connect your lock
8
EL1335D Access Control Panel Technical Manual
between terminals 1 and 2. Note that the relay contacts are volt-free, so you need to bring in
power supply as shown in the diagram. Locks should be continuous operation, so that the
coil of the lock will not overheat when activated permanently.
EL1335D provided with 4 sensor inputs and 2 auxiliary relay outputs. You may wire in any
sensor device which has a volt-free contact.
The auxiliary output is a change-over relay and the 3 volt-free contacts are available at a
screw connector.
By default, EL1335D is configured to work in EL1300 mode, which means it behave exactly
like EL1300/EL1330 controller.
To activate EL1335D mode, please unshunt PIN2 of JP4. In EL1335D mode, all parameter
can be set by using [Link] software, thus eliminating the needs to enter programming mode.
Please refer to Chapter 7 for EL1335D mode operation. Other chapters of this document is
meant for EL1335D board working in EL1300 mode.

4. SHIFT COMMANDS
Shift key commands are commands that require the use of the “SHIFT” key (key ‘0’). These
commands are normally set by Technical Personnel during setting up of the system (except
<shift 7> and <shift 8>). You should not alter them during normal operation.
If you are programming EL1335D for the first time, you should perform all the shift
commands first before programming the user commands described in Chapter 5.
From the main menu which displays “ELID”, press the “SHIFT” key, the following display
will appear:
SHFT
You may now key in any of the keys ‘0’ – ‘7’ depending on what command you wish
to execute:-
All these commands are explained in this section, except diagnostic test commands (SHIFT
0) which are described in Chapter 6.
This command allows you to print a report of all transactions stored in the EL1335D buffer.
Before you exclude this command, you must connect the RS485 / Multidrop output to a PC.
The PC should run a terminal program such as HyperTerminal or Bray. The procedure for
setting up PC link is described in a separate article available at Elid web site.

4.2 Set Unit Number, Baud Rate & LAN Properties (SHIFT-2)
This command allows you to set the unit address of the EL1335D, baud rate of the
serial communication port and LAN properties if you are using LAN communication.
Up to 16 units of EL1335D can be wired to the same communication bus. The PC which links
these units must be able to specify which unit it wishes to communicate with. Thus, all the units
tied to the same bus must be set to have different addresses. This is done by this command.
The baud rate setting is the speed at which the communication line transmits and
receives signals. Obviously, for successful communication, all equipment in the bus
(EL1335D, Communicator such as EL70Y, and the PC communication port) must be set
to the same speed. Default speed is 2400 bauds.
If you are using TCP/IP module for communication, the LAN properties (IP address,
Subnet Mask and Default Gateway) can be set from this menu

This command assigns the timers (defined in Set TIMER command) for each day of the
week to each category of staff. There are a total of 8 programmable categories; Category 2
is pre-programmed to permit entry at all times.
You should consider your staff structure and working hours and then draw up a table such
as the one shown in Section 1.6, which is reproduced below:-
Timer For
Note that category 2 is a pre-programmed category which offers FREE ACCESS. Any
card holder assigned with this category will have access at all time. On entering this
command, the following display appears:

PIN Mode, when enabled, will require a person to key in his unique 4-digit PIN number in
addition to waving the card. Therefore, it has a higher security. When this mode is
disabled, PIN is not necessary to gain entry.
When the “NO ENTRY” mode is activated, all cards are temporarily barred from entering.
When the mode is disabled, normal operation resumes.
To enter into the door command, press the key marked ‘DOOR’ or ‘4’, and the display
will show:

Note that this series of setting procedure is identical to that of setting category described in
Section 3.5. When you have completed all the settings, the display will show:
P_tZ
Which means “PIN mode Time Zone”. You are now required to enter the timers for Sunday,
Monday……Holiday just as before. As explained above, this allows you to automatically
change the setting of EL1335D to operate in Card + PIN mode (timers=off) or Card mode
(timer=on). In a former case, the user has to wave the card, then key in a 4 digit PIN code.
In latter case, he only needs to wave his card.
On completing the above setting the display will show the next command, which is GP Output
Time Zone Setting for Output 1 or for Output 2. This parameter is only allowed to be set when the
output is set to general purpose output, if the Output 1 is not set to GP output, the display will
direct show command which to set GP Output Time Zone Setting for Output 2.
Assuming that the output 1 is set to GP output, the display below will appear for 3 seconds:

change to set GP output 2. When the timers you set is activate, it will automatically turn on
the General Purpose Output Point.
When a particular day is declared as a holiday, then the time zones and category will
automatically use the timers assigned for holidays for that day. For example if Dec 25 is
a Wednesday, and is declared as a holiday, then when Dec 25 arrives, EL1335D will not
use Wednesday for processing the time zones and time categories, it will use the Holiday
timer settings.
EL1335D caters for a total of 20 holidays. To enter into this command, press the key ‘6’.
The display will show:

7. EL1335D Mode
This section describe on EL1335D mode. The advantage of this mode is that it does not
involved programming at the hardware side. All the parameters can be set from [Link]
software.
Before switching on the system, ensure that all your wiring are correct. You must pay
particular attention to the Power Supply wires. Mistakes made may cause the PCB to be
damage when switched on.
The first operation you have to perform is “initialization”. During initialization, the memory of
EL1335D is cleared.
Shunt PIN 1 of JP4, and switch the power ON. Wait till “LOCK”, “RELAY 1” and “RELAY 2”
LEDs turn ON. If EK9S is connected, it will show “ELID”. While remain power ON, remove
PIN 1 of JP4. The LEDs will turn off and initialization has been completed.
Please make sure PIN2 of JP4 is not shunted after initialization to ensure EL1335D board is
working under EL1335D mode.
Right after cold start, the baud rate is defaulted to 9600. From software, you can use this
baud rate setting to communicate and take control of the board.
