Choose an information / communication technology that is of interest to you.

For
example, you might choose a social media app, a system for managing home delivery
orders and sending them to drivers, an augmented reality game or a groupware
application for working and communicating online during a lockdown. Critically analyse
this using the methods you have been taught. Describe it carefully, noting features of
particular interest. Do some background research about the application; if possible say
how and why it was developed and by whom. See if you can find any research papers
or other documents reviewing or criticizing it. Assess what is good and bad about the
application and say how you think it might be improved in future, if possible.

Title

Introduction

Provide a brief introduction to the device/system, including notes describing the

expected users, the context of use, the sort of tasks that the thing is used for and the
technology required to support it.

Background Research

Summarise existing research that is relevant to device/system. This might include a

theory of operation, or notes on the history of development, or even expectations for the
future of this kind of thing. Make sure you cite these references properly (see
References, below).

How it works

Explain clearly how the device/system/product works. Provide at least one

diagram illustrating this. Don’t forget to give your diagram an appropriate caption in text
below it(e.g. Fig. 2 How it works). You do not need to go into a lot of technical detail but
should outline the design concept and the basic parts and operation of the system. If it
is flexible and could be used in different applications, explain how.

Benefits and Risks

Explain the benefits and any risks that might be involved with using the project. You
should explain why each item is a benefit or a risk in a few sentences.

Conclusion
Summarise your arguments, explain any reservations you might have about the
product,
and how you think it might be improved. What are the future prospects of the system, if
any?

References

It is important to provide appropriate references for the materials you have used. Use
the IEEE style and try to avoid anonymous, random websites if possible

Common questions

Powered by AI

During a global crisis, such as a pandemic, the development and adoption of home delivery management systems are largely influenced by the necessity for contactless delivery to reduce transmission risk, the demand for efficient supply chain logistics due to increased online shopping, and the capability to handle vast amounts of data from real-time order processing and distribution. Optimizing delivery routes and resources also becomes a critical factor to maintain performance and customer satisfaction .

To improve sustainability, home delivery systems can incorporate eco-friendly packaging, optimize delivery routes using AI to reduce fuel consumption, and promote the use of electric or hybrid delivery vehicles. Implementing reusability in packing materials and offering no-emission delivery options like bicycles can further decrease environmental impact while enhancing their design and operations .

Existing literature critiques can guide improvements in home delivery management systems by identifying specific pain points such as inefficiencies in route optimization, issues with system scalability, or weaknesses in user interfaces. Addressing these issues through technological enhancements, such as machine learning for predictive analysis and better user experience design, can lead to more efficient and user-friendly systems .

Augmented reality games have evolved significantly, starting with basic games that layered simple graphics over real-world views to highly interactive and immersive experiences using advanced machine learning and real-time rendering technologies. Early applications provided basic augmented overlays, but current games like Pokémon GO employ location-based data and social features for higher user engagement. Advances in AR hardware, like improved sensors and displays, have further enhanced user interaction by providing more realistic and seamless integration of virtual elements in physical spaces .

Effective research methodologies for evaluating augmented reality in education include mixed-methods approaches combining quantitative data from controlled experiments or standardized assessments with qualitative insights from interviews and observations. Longitudinal studies can provide an understanding of long-term implications, while case studies allow in-depth analysis of specific contexts and applications .

Social media apps developed from the need for quick and easy communication and sharing of multimedia content over long distances. Influenced by the rise of the internet and mobile technology, early platforms like Friendster and Myspace paved the way by demonstrating user interest in online community building and personal content sharing, ultimately leading to apps like Facebook and Twitter that capitalized on real-time interaction and broad user engagement .

Groupware applications offer significant benefits during lockdowns, including facilitating remote collaboration, improving communication efficiency, and maintaining project timelines by enabling team members to share files and updates in real-time. However, they also present risks such as potential data breaches, increased dependency on technology, and challenges in managing work-life balance due to constant connectivity .

Essential features of a groupware application include real-time messaging systems, file-sharing capabilities, integration with other productivity tools, task management functionalities, and video conferencing support. These features enable seamless communication and collaboration, essential for maintaining workflow continuity and efficiency, especially in remote work settings .

Future developments in social media apps can address mental health criticisms by implementing features that promote positive engagement, such as limiting screen time, encouraging breaks, and using AI to detect and mitigate negative interactions. Integrating mental health resources, such as direct access to counseling services or stress-relief content, could be beneficial. Apps might also offer personalized content moderation and diverse user controls to manage their social media environments better .

Supporting augmented reality in gaming requires robust hardware like cameras and sensors for real-time data capture, high-resolution displays for immersive experiences, and powerful processors to handle complex computations and render AR elements seamlessly. Limitations include potential high costs, limited battery life, and processing power of mobile devices that may hinder the smooth performance and accessibility of advanced AR games .
