ENGINEERING DRAWING FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERS
(Mechanical Engineering)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70
(Answer all the questions: 05 X 14 = 70 Marks)
Assume any missing data appropriately.
*****
1 A cube of side 30 mm rests on the H.P. on its end with the vertical faces equally inclined to the V.P. It
is cut by a plane perpendicular to the V.P. and inclined at 300 to the H.P. meeting the axis at 25 mm
above the base. Draw its front view, sectional top view and true shape of the section.
OR
2 A circular hole of diameter 30 mm is drilled through a vertical cylinder of diameter 50 mm and height
65 mm. The axis of the hole is perpendicular to the V.P. and meets the axis of the cylinder at right
angles at a height of 30 mm above the base. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the
cylinder.

3 A cylinder of height 65 mm and diameter 40 mm is resting on its base on the H.P. It is cut by a plane
perpendicular to V.P. and inclined at 300 to the H.P. The plane passes through a point on the axis
located at 25 mm from the top. Draw the isometric projection of the cut cylinder.
OR
4 Draw the isometric view of the object whose orthographic projections are shown in figure. All
dimensions are in mm.

5 Draw the three orthographic views for the following figure below.

6 Draw the following views of the object given in figure. All dimensions are in mm.
(a) Front View,
(b) Top View and
(c) Side View from the right.

7 A steam boiler of 3 m diameter is surmounted by a dome of the shape of a vertical cylinder of 1.5 m
diameter. Draw the curve of intersection between the two surfaces when their axes intersect each
other at right angles.
OR
8 A cylinder with a 50 mm diameter base and a 70 mm height is resting on its base on the HP. It is
intersected by a triangular prism of 35 mm sides whose axis is parallel to both the reference planes
and is offset by 5 mm from the cylinder’s axis. Draw the three views and show the curves of
intersection.

9 Draw the perspective view of a circle of 50 mm diameter, lying on the ground plane and touching the
picture plane. The station point is 80 mm in front of the picture plane and 60 mm above the ground
plane. The central plane passes through the centre of the circle.
OR
10 A rectangular pyramid of sides 30 mm x 20 mm and height 35 mm rests with its base on ground such
that one of the longer edges is parallel to picture plane and 30 mm behind it. The station point is 50
mm in front of the picture plane, 30 mm to the left of the axis of the pyramid and 50 mm above the
ground. Draw the perspective view of the pyramid.
